Peaceful Mountain Lake

Peaceful Mountain Lake - student project

Another wonderful class, Chris! I want to express my gratitude for offering yet another one of your exceptional landscape tutorials. From my previous work, it's probably quite evident how much I adore painting landscapes. This passion definitely comes from my lifelong experience of living in the breathtaking Pacific Northwest of Oregon. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the stunning natural beauty that surrounds me, constantly admiring the exquisite ever-changing skies, the majestic trees, and the mesmerizing water reflections in my backyard.

My yard has transformed into a small gallery of rocks that I've gathered from various locations, each one unique in shape, color, and texture. These stones inspire my creativity and sometimes find their way into my artwork.

What I particularly admire about your teaching style is how it aligns so closely with my own artistic inclinations. While I do enjoy challenging myself with more spontaneous and loose painting techniques, I find my true comfort zone lies in a slower, more deliberate approach. This tutorial stood out as particularly beneficial; it offered great guidance on how to effectively capture the essence of mountains, trees, water reflections, and rocks—all in a manner that resonates with my painting style.

In comparison to other tutorials I’ve explored, this one has proven to be invaluable. I can see myself returning to it time and time again, poring over it as I delve into my landscape practice in my journals. The multitude of tips you provide for painting landscapes is simply remarkable, and I'm eager to incorporate them into my work.

I did encounter some challenges, particularly with my mountains not achieving the blue hue I envisioned. Additionally, my distant hills turned out darker than intended, which unfortunately affected the definition of the trees. However, I understand that these discrepancies are part of the learning process.

Thank you once again for your patient and encouraging approach to teaching, as well as your smooth, deliberate style. I always find immense joy in painting alongside you!
