Both painting are great Jo. I think like all of us painters its natural to be sometimes harsh critics of our work. The watercolour is my favourite as its gives more of a soft peaceful vibe. The oil pastel painting has a real mystical vibe. Don't be too  harsh on yourself.  We can learn from even our best and our not so good paintings.

Lovely work, and I'm glad to see you experimenting with different mediums.  Even when others are showering your work with praises, feeling disappointment about the results is something all artists struggle with (even me). My suggestion is to think of each piece as a learning experience. Think about what techniques, styles, etc. you feel worked well and got you results you are pleased with, and which were either things you would like to improve on or just avoid completely in the future. I hope this helps!

Thanks so much! Yes, every time we draw or paint we learn something new (good or bad!) I love to try out new mediums. My sketchbooks are full of 'tried and tested' hehehe!!

That's great. I'm planning on starting a new sketchbook soon where I give myself permission to do 'bad' art. That is, where I fight my nature for perfection and allow myself to be messy and childlike.

Love childlike! Fun, it’s a shame we lose that as we grow! My youngest son, 24, thought it was hilarious that I had ‘crayons’ 🤭 😂

Hi Carmen! Thank you! The first one is the watercolour ~ it's a bit messy, had to stop myself fiddling with it! Hope you're well :) 

Glad to hear this! It's an important skill to sense when you've transitioned from creating to fiddling.

I finally got around to actually doing the project!
One is done in watercolour and one is done with some water-soluble oil pastels I got my hands on!
Not overly impressed with either but, it is what it is, as they say! At least I did it!
