Park Walk

I was originally going to walk around my neighborhood and document the construction going on, but I haven't been able to do that so I took pictures of interesting things on my usual walk. There's a park down the street from my dog's groomer that I exercise in every Sunday while waiting for my dog to finish being brushed or bathed. One thing I love about this park is that behind it there is a dry riverbed and the juxtaposition of the lush tended park with the rough, sharp, desert landscape behind it is interesting to me.

PRE-SELECTS FROM MY SHOOT

I don't know what flower this is, but I really liked these big bright white flowers in this kind of dull brown area with leaves that blended in with everything around it. It also has these sharp seed balls on the plant which are cool.

I really liked the outline of the flowers reaching up over the brown brush.

This image really highlights that contrast between the manicured park and the natural state of the dry river bed.

For this image, the outline of the shadows of a pile of rocks really interested me. It looks like distorted little city skyline.

There is a huge overpass that crosses the river bed, and passing under it on the bike path always gives me a feeling of fear and comfort at once. Looking across the river at all the pillars always scares me a bit.

I thought this old scrap concrete looked kinda like one of those giant snail creatures from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind from Studio Ghibli. It's one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies.

This California sycamore tree had really cool looking bark. I was originally attracted to the single leaf growing out of the trunk, and looking at it later on, the shadow of the leaf on the trunk looks like a bass clef. That made me select this one as one of my edited pieces.

I don't remember the name of this tree, but I've always liked the fibrous bark of this conifer, and the tufts of twigs and needles peeking out of the trunk.

This is the underside of another sycamore branch. I loved how it looks like someone bending over me, like it's protecting me from the world. At the same time, I feel very aware when standing under it, that it could fall on top of me if it isn't strong enough.

FINAL EDITED SELECTIONS

I shot all of these with just my native camera app and the Snapseed app. I don't have a lot of room on my phone for apps, so I just used these since they're fairly simple.
