I chose a colorful caterpillar and used your suggestions for watercolor and gouache. I used gouache for the stronger black and orange areas, watercolor for the rest. I forgot and painted all black in one section of the caterpillar. I wasn’t able to paint over the black gouache with the orange and get the same brightness as the other spots.

Great practice combining both mediums! Thank you for all the tips about how you decide when to select gouache vs watercolor. And also about composition which I find challenging.

I opted not to paint a background because the flowers were so detailed and I wasn’t sure how I would do that!
