One limit at a time. ..

My sketchbook saw a lot of action in the making of this class.  Here are my experiments!

Day One: Colour

The Drop & Draw Sheet prompted me to try drawing a cuddly toy, so I invited Bess the Orangutan to sit for me - I used a few different types of materisl, but all with the blue hue.  It made her look rather thoughtful ☺️

Then I tried a purple paint marker, trying to vary my line thicknesses and playing with negative space.  Lastly I sketched a piece of fabric using a graphite stick, which gave me the chance to explore tones and contrasts. I think the fabric is my favourite, but all of them were relaxing to make!

Day Two: Tools

I chose a wooden skewer as my one tool, then I used acrylic paint with it to attempt drawing random hats.  I started trying to control the stick, but realised it was much more fun to let the skewer lead me into swirls and scratches!

Day Three: Size

I made three little boxes at the top of my page and sketched in variations on a "cassette" theme. Don't ask me what that cassette-dude is all about, it just crept into being and made me smile! 😂

Day Four: Senses

I decided to layer my Sense drawings all on one page, which seemed to fit with the pile of cutlery I was using as my subject.  I love how the flowers on the cutlery scattered out when I couldn't see what I was drawing!

Day Five: Marks

The Drop & Draw Sheet gave me "Cogs" as my prompt and on first thought this made me think of circles...so I chose straight lines as my one mark.  However, looking back on it, the cogs had more edges than I had thought!  So there are a few extra random doodles on that page as I explore thoughts.

I really love how the stamped apple came out - I used a tiny letter "S" stamp with green ink and it was so satisfying building up the tones in such a repetitive motion.

The double page was an abstract experiment to only use bendy swirly lines - hugely relaxing to do.

Day Six: Time

On short time limits I can feel very freaked - the 30 second one made me eek! 😅 But I also really enjoyed it because it pushed me to not worry so much.  And seeing all the sketches together at the end is really cool.

It's funny, because my favourite turned out to be the 5 minute sketch.  The 10 minute one came out a bit off perspective-wise... perhaps with all that extra time I overthought it!

Day Seven: Space

I decided to place my drawing in the corner, and to have it peeping into the frame.  It's an owl-like creature which is a bit intense eye-wise 😳 but I love it's attitude and the colours were a joy.

I loved it so much I created another on the page behind and cut a hole in the main page, which makes another type of spatial boundary - very fun.

To anyone who takes my class - thank you! I really hope you have fun exploring these simple limitations!
