Like you Denise I never liked oil pastel much.  In fairness the only time I used them were in primary school (I think it the US readers say grade school). They had great colours but were messy and I'd get them on my hands and they smeared spoiling my great works of art.  

I am currently making it a mission to use all the art supplies I have inherited for various family members.  Somehow I end up with all the half used paints, inks and pastels. It's quite the mish-mash of supplies and includes a set of oil pastels.  An old set , and one that was not so great to start out and many years in the back of a draw probably had not improved them either. 

So knowing this was not the best set of oil pastels I had a go.  I was please with the result.  The technique works and the result is as advertised. The painters tape I used removed well.  The post its were less successful but that may just be my technique.  Overall it was a success but... I still don't list oil pastels as a favoured medium.
