Notan, Black and white

It is hard to leave this class! Just finished? It with the addition of another girl with pearl next to the girl of Joh. Vermeer. I found a beautiful picture and had to make it a black and white too!

The project:

Such different from what I use to paint! I am curious what I will paint with this class. Everything in black and white.

I worked with such a pleasure with this class. I remind a Japanese character workshop where we learned that expressive strokes, strong strokes are better. With painting for this class, I remembered this. So many paintings of this project can be improved with that in mind! But I learned a lot again by just painting all this.
The art studies are such a good way to look at art. I go this week to the Van Goghmuseum with that in mind and look for the redfruitbat-painting I never noticed!

When I ever draw  a portrait in the future I will always paint a black and white to start! These portraits are beautiful and a good preparation!

I painted three series of black and whites and a few owl!

To finish this project: two owls (I used photos) and two girls with a pearl! The same Girl from my art study and a girl from a beautiful photo I found.

The third series.

These black and whites are studies of  old masters! in the portrait serie is already  ‘The girl with the pearl’, Johannes Vermeer (1667)

In 1886 Vincent painted this stuffed red fruit bat.
Van Gogh rarely painted animals. For this painting he used a stuffed bat from a friend. The friend stuffed animals and had more than 200 of them!

The second series of this project!
Just looking too dark and light in photo’s and paintings. So much fun to experiment! I even think of putting ink and brushes on the table and fill a sketchbook!

The first paintings to start!

The more I made, the more care  I take about were, how thick, forms  ….

I think the best ones, are those that I do not want to change a days after finishing!

It is difficult for me not to doodle but start with planes. And to take care of balance in black and white Notan, Black and white - image 10 - student project
