Hi Walter, Good work with this drawing! the features of the face are in proportion and the shapes look great - the eyes especially are quite striking! You've done a good job of identifying and shading the shadow shapes of the face. A couple of tips that will take things to the next level:• The top lip is usually darker than the bottom lip - adding a light layer of shading to the top lip will help show the way it angles out slight over the bottom lip.• For hair, try to find the big shapes of light and dark before adding the texture - that will help it to feel fuller. You could add some shaded areas over top in the darker parts, to eliminate the small white gaps showing through (leave the white gaps for only the lightest parts of the hair). This is a really solid start and I wish you the best of luck with your new hobby! Emily PS. Skillshare likes photos taken as landscape format - its not ideal for a portrait drawing but it will put your project photos up the right way if they are in landscape. I can turn my head to view though, its no problem :D

I really enjoyed taking the portrait drawing course on Skillshare. For the past few (8) weeks, I’ve been taking drawing lessons with Emily Armstrong: what a pleasure and very well given.  I’ve discovered how much I love drawing too. Since I’m retired, it’s just a hobby for me, and I’m now taking my very first steps into the world of drawing. I find portraits harder to draw than still lifes—especially when it comes to shading and getting the hair right!
