My Love/Hate Relationship with Sculpt Mode
I will admit, I have a love/hate relationship with the very tool I used to create this class. (Second only to the very frustrating Pen tool but that's a whole other class!) It's not an easy tool to use and you will likely end up having to undo and start over more than a few times so please don't get frustrated.
The love part comes in when I can use it to create something like this.
A few pointers on using Sculpt Mode, if you run in to issues:
- Take it a little slowly while moving continuously. When I move too quickly that's when I seem to have the most issues. Pause, figure out your exact start and stop point and move slowly but with continued motion.
- If the first try doesn't work, try changing directions. Sometimes, if I start where I originally planned to end, I have greater success.
- Remember, you can always add nodes with the Node tool and use them as braced on either side of whatever you're trying to release from the mask. I recommend adding a sharp node. Moving them in to place with Snapping on makes it even easier to place them.
- The Node tool can always help you make other adjustments you need as well, such as closing a broken path, moving an existing node or changing the type of node (for example from Smooth to Sharp).
This takes practice and can be frustrating but, once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun to see what you can create!
