Hello, Annie! Well done, you used non standard materials for Khokhloma and tried immediately to apply new technique. That's great, I like this way!I like your choice was Indian ink. As I told in my class as more liquid a paint as easier to learn Khokhloma painting. However it is better to use any paper, but not for watercolor painting, because this paper absorb water very fast and dry your brush. As result the brush is not sliding very well. You can take even usual paper for printers which we always have at home or in an office. Your swirls and runners are very well (only in one place the runners are "dancing"). Swirls usually are difficult for beginners, but you did them with a firm hand. The drops and grass need more practice, but you are on the right way definitely. My congratulations with your Pryanik! Thank you. I'm also going to try with a painted acrylic background. It was hard to get smooth marks with the watercolor paper. I will be following your work on Insta. I looked up some of the other russian styles mentioned in your class. I have taken some classes on norwegian rosemaling and swedish dala horses. I see some similar but different themes. I look forward to your other classes.

You are right, especially Northern Russian Folk styles look like a bit Norwegian or Swedish, because historically it was territory of the same tribes. I like a lot Mezen painting, it is very stylish (it is one of the oldest, Russian Northern style) and I'm going to prepare a class of Mezen in 2021.

Really, try with golden acrylic background, it worth it! Tell me later how is it, please. I'm curious about your opinion, because you will have experience with both and feel the difference.
