Move, Shift, and Flow

Move, Shift, and Flow - student project

The past four years I've been working on my PhD studying Montessori education. Grad school was tough and consumed my every moment. I just finished the program in May and this artwork was my creative release.

Now that I'm done with grad school, I'm off to a new job in Washington DC. I've been visiting to scout out apartments and get to know the city. My favorite event is the cherry blossom festival. So, I threw in some blossom pedals to celebrate my new home.

I loved working layer by layer. There were definitely trouble-shooting moments. Taking time between layers to let it simmer and feel my way to the next step was helpful. I particularly enjoyed applying washes to change the mood and add depth. Below, you can see each layer from first to last.

And the final layer. I can't wait to frame and hang it in my new home!
