Mirevanwood

Mirevanwood - student project

This is a record of Mirevanwood, a haunted forest world that is key scenery in my second book. I included some of its history, a brief description of it and listed some of the inhabitants. (Sorry if I included to many details. Once again I couldn't help myself.)

A Brief History:

Known as Lihnravok to elves and Mirevanwood to men, the sprawling forested lands north of Alkorlad was once home to the Delenian Elves, and was called Glimmerwood the Grand. It was a prosperous and blissful land where the elven people thrived, especially during the days of Gurrithrond the Golden and his son, Gelgembror. It was called "Gylmorya" in the elven tongues, which means "enlightened abode".

But centuries later, the elven kind was forced to flee from their realm of Glymorya, cast out by the evils and horrors unleashed upon them by the jealous mortal, Dur-Hawkin emperor of the mortal Northern Realm, Ammor. The elves fled their great forest realm and the light of Glymorya began to fade.

Glimmerwood became the dwelling place for many of Dur-Hawkin's newly-created monsters; such as screvons, draznak, ogres and goblins. Mazagroth himself dwelt there for a time, and an evil magic was sown into the land. The Great Tree's of Glymorya lost all there light gave birth to a dark forest. It was thereafter refered to in the tongues of men as Mirevanwood, the darkened dwelling; where no man dare now go.

A Description of Mirevanwood:

It became gnarled, grey, and lifeless-yet still living. The trees cling together tightly, letting no sunlight beneath their canopies, only eerie shadows that hide myriads of unseen horrors amongst the once-great-ruins of elven dwellings.

The magic grew stronger as the elves traveled farther away, and as the evils of Mazagroth multiplied like flies, with qualities that seeped into one's sanity to lead him astray.

A List of its Inhabitants:

Goblins:

These are the "darkened" half-brothers of the dwarves, who live in the outcroppings they call Denwash. They are also master breeders of Drogbeasts.

Draznak:

These are similar to the body shape of a gorilla, only several times bigger and with massive horned heads similar to that of an ogre. Their name means "big-fists".

Fynirhim Hounds:

The most mysterious species in Mirevanwood, these large wolf-like dogs directly absorbed the magic of Mazagroth and have a similar quality with the forest. The Foresters call them "Shame Hounds".

Huldrogs:

Relatives of the drakons, refered to as "the first-born". They are as large as a giraffe and as tall, with elongated necks. They emit a muggy, black essence from their bodies; which is crucially used in battles by Mazagroth's forces.

Trolls:

Also known as "Earthshakers" because of their large, earthy shapes, trolls are generally nonchalant and only dwell in or near Mirevanwood because the slime deposits which they rely on to live.

Drogbeasts:

These are kin to horses, but they are all-black due to their corruption by the goblins of Denwash.

The Foresters of Lihnravok:

No one ever returned to Mirevanwood, but there were some who didn't break under the pressure of the curse and remained. They were the descendants of the Ihnadain, of the union of the maiden, Fenawyn and the elven forester, Ihnadore---the half elves. To those that knew of their existence, they were called the Foresters of Lihnravok or the Hunters of Mahrgoth; since their occupation was hunting down of the evil ceatures of the Wood, hoping that maybe by their hands they could restore Glimmerwood the Grand.
