This is really pretty. You’re getting some nice soft movement in your petals, and that spiral shape is coming through really well. And what you’re describing is exactly what most people struggle with in the beginning. There really isn’t a perfect formula for water and pigment. It’s more of a feel that develops over time. Your Arches paper is great, so you’re on the right track there. A couple things could be happening. Sometimes it’s how much water is on your brush, and sometimes it’s how quickly you’re moving. If the paper feels like it’s drying too fast, try working a little quicker or adding just a bit more water at the start so it has more time to move. It can also be your environment. A fan running or heat in the room will dry your paper faster than you think. Brush size matters too. A larger brush will hold more water and keep things wet a little longer, which can really help. You’re doing the right thing by noticing all of this. That awareness is what helps it start to click. Keep practicing this one a few times. It really does start to feel more natural the more you do it.

Thank you!  I appreciate the knowledgeable feedback and your time for providing it!  I can't remember if it was this tutorial or another one of your other tutorials, but you mentioned a quill brush.  I didn't have one so I purchased a set of Meeden Quill brushes.  

Yes, I often use a Quill brush, especially when I need to add a lot of water or I want a large brush so I can get loose. They do take a little bit of time to get used to because of how much water they hold, but you got this! Now that I know you have one, I'll make mention of how to use them or what to watch out for, in a future class. :) 

I just was reviewing the class I am publishing today, (roses) and I use a quill brush a lot in that one! Have fun! :)

Loved this class, thank you!  I am struggling with the amount of water and pigment to use.  I have not gotten the formula down yet.  I also find my paper, which is Arches 140lb, seems to dry quickly.  It seems in your tutorial your paper stays wet longer than mine.
