Lighting practice with my patient models

After watching Lucy’s class, I had so much fun experimenting with different lighting setups. For the background, I used a roll of vintage wallpaper, and for the surface, I placed a wooden plank topped with a vintage crocheted doily — I loved how it added some texture and warmth!

I tried out a few 'models' — all very patient, I must say. I also used a wooden artist mannequin to help hold some string lights — such a great assistant, never complains!

I played around with various reflective materials: silver foil, a large white canvas, and even the golden inlay from a box of chocolates. It was so interesting to see how each one affected the light and mood, especially when adjusting the screens (open, closed) and working with reflections.

I’ve included a few photos from the shoot, plus some behind-the-scenes shots to show how I set it all up. This project really opened my eyes to how creative you can get with simple materials — and how much impact light has on a photo’s atmosphere.

Thanks again, Lucy, for the inspiration! This was such an enjoyable and insightful experiment.

The image on the left is a bit to moody for my taste, but I liked experimenting with the fairy lights.
