Life is Joyous

Life is joyous
If we listen
Listen to the birds
Listen to the cars, the planes
Can you hear the joy?
Maybe not
That's okay
Our mind is here to protect us
Alert to any danger
Always full of fear.
That is its purpose.
Be grateful!
Isn't that joyous?
If you allow, you can hear.
Allowing is loving
Loving yourself enough to allow joy
Enter your heart
Listen to its glory
It gives you life.
It allows you to live.
Isn't that joyous?
I wrote this the morning of Father's Day. It was the first Father's Day since my 20 year old son died. I was expecting to be sad and probably have a challenging day. I sat down outside to journal and explore my feelings. Surprisingly this gratitude filled poem came out. I ended up have a very joyous, even blissful, day. I was very surprised the way the day turned out, and I attribute that to sitting, exploring, and writing this poem.
