Journey Back to Art

Covid isolation and several other very real traumas in my family had me so stuck. Just in the past month, I started revisiting my old projects and looking at pages and pages of color swatches, Then I remembered my jewel, the Daniel Smith swatch ring I put together with every DS color I possessed. I started taking Skillshare classes again and do a very little project daily. I even went out of my comfort zone and ordered some watercolors that are NOT Daniel Smith brand. You can see the newest colors, ones I probably would not have bought before in the photo. You make many great suggestions, and you can see that I have already started on a few of them! You can tell how much I resonated with many of your ideas. Thanks for an inspiring class, Bianca! More to come!

Bianca suggested many ways to overcome a creative slump. Dragging out some relics, taking advantage of Amazon Prime sales, and watching Bianca's limited color-mixing class pushed me in a good direction. I dug out a small Inktense set and my old gouache paints I saved from college art. I splurged on acrylic dual-tip markers, some Posco white paint pens with fine points and a set of metallic markers. Fun package to open! Also, decided to do more with the yellow-cyan-magenta colors for a limited palette. Tomorrow I plan to do a couple more of her suggestions to stay out of the rut I was in. Thanks, friends, for encouragement!

Breaking the resistance to practice art-ing, here are two 4”x6” tests of new watercolors. Colors are the same on both but different values. Perfection is not my goal. Having fun and getting there!
