Jelly Bean Row, Newfoundland; Dinant Main St, Belgium

A friend's vacation photo inspired this urban sketch (see below for reference photo). The colours of the houses and the white window frames, as well as the slope, were my focus. It's not as minimalist a sketch as those in the class, but it's as loose as I was prepared to go on this closeup scene.
I've never been to Dinant, Belgium, but I was captivated by photos of its main street, which faces the River Meuse (see below for reference photo). The old 3- and 4-story buildings are completely dwarfed by the towering cliff that has a citadel fortress/ citadel snaking along it and by the equally tall 13th-century cathedral, Notre Dame de Dinant. I hope some day I can sketch it on location.
I used brighter colours for the citadel and the cathedral than they actually have, and brightened the buildings as well. In my sketch I am happy with the way the colourful buildings are reflected, hopefully indicating the water without the need for blue or waves.
