Inspired by Amsterdam
My Rough Plan
During the filming of this class I planned a trip (and roughly followed it) to the following places:
- Hay Interior Store for interior inspiration and coffee
- Spui Square where there are a few amazing book and magazine stores
- Boekenmarkt Oudemanhuispoort for second hand books in English and Dutch. I snagged a rad copy of The Little Prince.
- Henxs Amsterdam Montana Shop for street art and graffiti supplies. I hadn’t been to this place yet. Graffiti supplies are now on my list of things to get.
During the day out I also had Dutch pancakes in a place with walls and table prints by Hugo Kaagman—see below.
How I’ve Been Inspired & Influenced
I don’t normally think of street art and graffiti when it comes to exploring Amsterdam—that’s more Berlin’s thing. Recently I’ve been seeing street art and graffiti everywhere though. And I’ve started incorporating it into my work—which is pretty abstract. I’ve been doodle bombing, collaging, and creating abstract art with street-art and graffiti vibes in it.
I found work by Dutch artist Hugo Kaagman everywhere on my trip out—in books, and on walls, statues, and posters. Graffiti is coming alive to me.
My Work
Here are a few pieces I’ve been created, inspired by street art and graffiti. You can find a few of them for sale on my TeePublic store.
