I really like these! I love the cobalt and gold colors. The second piece reminds me of Klimt's works, and the first makes me think of Eyvind Earle.   Some day I will learn to simplify ... lol!

Thanks, Jen! I can see some Klimt in that one too. I wonder if Matthew was also inspired by Klimt. I didn't come across that in my research but I wouldn't be surprised.  Oh wow, I had never heard of Eyvind Earle. Thank you so much for sharing a new artist for me to dive into. I'm super excited after just a quick search into his work and given his work for Disney, I definitely recognize those images.  It's hard to stop to keep the simplified look. I feel like I had to really restrain myself not to keep going. :)

You know, today I had to "repair" a painting by making it an impromptu mixed media piece: I glued a few watercolor circles onto the piece to cover up the messy spots, and then I called it a day.  Kinda works though, so I'm going to pretend that was my plan all along.  😂 And all of that happened because I didn't know when to quit ... Thanks for introducing us to Mathew Wong :)

I often find that I have that happen too, but I tend to intentionally lean into mixed media, but there's a point where it's not working and then it just does. That's wonderful that mixed media helped out with your painting.  You're welcome! The more I see his artwork the more I love it. :)

I had so much fun working intuitively to develop these landscapes, playing with color, value, and painted texture and marks.
