Yeah, it did seem to just get louder. What I would try doing is just cranking up the noise reduction on the barking part (try increasing the sensitivity and the noise reduction (dB) sliders inside the noise reduction panel). 

You could also try applying a filter curve inside Audacity and boosting the highs and the lows of your voice to make it sound "closer" (that can also be achieved by talking a little closer or a little louder to the microphone).
