How To Make Butterflies - Mixed Media Butterfly Sculpture - Clay, Paper, Ink, Wa

I immensely enjoyed doing this project! I fell in love with inking pattern so had to try it out immediately :D

Also, for me this was a scrap project since I used materials I had at home at the moment:)

So, paper was 270g/m2 in light blue colour. I didn’t managed to draw on the backside of the wings, I couldn’t see the lines (tried to put paper od the window). I used only ultramarine watercolour for wings decoration and inked pen. I didn’t have air dry clay so I used black polymer clay. I wasn’t patient so I did the body in one baking, hence the stomach of the butterfly is little bit messy. Also used liquid clay for better connection. Antennas and legs are made of guitar wires (my husband recently changed old ones and saved them for my projects).

Below are pictures before and after painting and baking. I’m quite happy with results :)

Word on symmetry: it was difficult to draw, very hard to cut as per drawing, and I went crazy while colouring it :D looks simple but it really requires practice and patience.

I enjoyed creating dotted pattern, that was my favourite part.
