Homage to Hieronymus Bosch?

Homage to Hieronymus Bosch? - image 1 - student project

Inappropriate to recycle leftover Matisse shapes to clamor for space in a Bosch-memory of  "The Garden of Earthly Delights"?  (Actually had a copy of that painting when I was in college!)

Mixed media here? Yup! Let me count the ways: construction paper, smooth cardboard backing, watercolor, Aquarelle watercolor crayons, Posca pens, colored pencils. Not all were successful notably the colored pencils which didn't show up and blend on either papers used. The watercolor crayons did not watercolor nicely, but they marked.

Again an adhesive-related issue emerged - some  thin pieces had not adhered. Thus theuy moved around messily when I tried to outline the spiral. Curses! I had high hopes for that spiral, and it was a mess.  Enter the black Posca pen to cover up thje scribbly mess with the liner pen. So, ok, mess got worse. What now? Desperation led me to gold Posca dots.

Maybe add some leftover pale pink with a gold tinge for a sky area? Old construction paper was thirsty and sucked up the paint. I added drops of darker pink and stopped imagining a pink sky.

On and on. Problem. Fix tried. New fix needed to fix previous fix fail.

I almost quit, but then: stubbornness came with good lessons. Some crayon-marked areas were amenable to share their spaces with Posca marks. Didn't know mixed media could be that mixed.  WOW!

Last piece fixed was the straggler to the far right where some sorta square shapes were Posca-added along with my sign of relief. Checkmate! All squared up by the end.

Bosch-beware! I'll be back with another "Garden of UN-Earthly Delights"!

Waaay mixed, Judy
