Gretchen, I really admire your painting! I understand the struggle with tonal values you mentioned, but honestly, I find the slightly darker left flower quite striking. It actually adds a wonderful depth to the piece, and I almost wish you’d applied a similar effect to the right flower. The texture and feel of the left flower remind me of some of Van Gogh’s expressive brushstrokes—there’s a sense of tactile quality that’s really compelling. Your attention to detail on the bud is impressive; the tiny hairs add fantastic texture. And your background is a visual treat, especially in the upper left and bottom right corners. It’s all beautifully done. Great work!

I dont see the struggle at all! The left flower just looks like the light isnt hitting it as much but its still got so much richness to the whole painting! Beautifully executed!
