Gouache play

I've been so looking forward to this class!!  Love Leah's cool style and I've been wanting to do more expressive/loose work with gouache in my sketchbook.

Technique I Wet on Wet

Found this technique much harder than it looked! Here are my practice sheets, using pear, plum, and apples for reference:

These below turned out to be my favourites, especially the pear...even though I didn't like it at first, it grew on me ;)

Technique II Graphic Shapes

These still look a bit watery.  Next time, I'll try to get the paint more opaque for that true graphic feel.

Technique III Linework

Linework was my favourite technique of the three! Though I did mix in some of the graphic shapes too...

Exercise: Still Life

Here's my still life incorporating all three techniques.  While the layout is not the best (that apple feels heavy and awkward), overall I'm pleased.

Thanks for viewing.  I welcome any feedback :)

Thank you Leah for another great class!  I really hope to maintain the momentum and develop a regular sketchbook practice using gouache; because...it's pretty awesome!!
