The water rendering is aesthetically pleasing. In my experience, water is a challenging subject to capture effectively. Despite my efforts, I often find it difficult to achieve the desired results. I admire your ability to portray water in such a captivating manner.

Thank you so kindly EMC!  I too find water challenging, and sometimes I really overpaint trying to achieve the right effects, especially watercolor.  I haven’t done a gouache painting in so long, I keep telling myself to pull them out and play for a day.  I am really needing to do that!

This was the best loved project for this class, you made it 11 months ago, today is 2024.3.15, and the last gouache piece/project you have published. Great inspiration. I also have the Burns + Craftamo brush set.

More recently, I have been wanting to circle back around to pull out my gouache paints, and I think you just helped nudge that thought.  I miss Sarah here on Skillshare, but still watch her on Youtube and Instagram. I’m so happy to hear I have spread some inspiration :)

Thank you Christine, I was quite new to gouache when I painted this and I remember being quite proud of it at the time. :)

As well you should be! :) Can't believe this was your first gouache painting - wow! I have never done an entire painting in gouache... I may add class to my "wish list." I wish there were more hours in the day (or more me's, ha ha).

I make the same wish Christine lol….I keep wanting to venture back around to a gouache painting, but like you, time, time, time….:). Taking this class got me hooked on continuing art with Skillshare.  Sarah is such a laid back person. She is very relaxing… She has not taught any new classes on Skillshare since I have been on, but I follow her on instagram and her webpage.  I even bought her brush set from Craftamo way back when… :) Have fun if you decide to take the class :)

That's so interesting!! The class that initially got me hooked on watercolor (hadn't done art since I was a child) was a Paul Clark "blue door" watercolor class on YouTube. SkillShare has so many talented artists to learn from... thank you so much for sharing your experience. :)

I have watched and love Paul Clark too!  I was just responding to teacher Ron Mulvey about the quality that Skillshare offers. :)

Thank you Patrick.  I started with Gouache in Feb and then started into watercolors.  Watercolors are the most challenging so it’s turned out to be my favorite, but I am finding a love for all things painting :) :). How long have you been painting?

Diana, I've been doing watercolor for about a year, but seriously the last few months. 

But I've been sketching and doing lino block printing for the last few years. And am a 40-year advertising/graphic art side creative with my own NYC agency for 30 years. Plus went to Parsons School of Design and taught there for 15 years. 

I've just recently retired, although I'm doing/donating creative work for a bunch of non-profits.

Congrats on the early retirement and taking the time to do creative work for non-profits. I’m lucky and retired too, but just turned 66 today! :):) Looking forward to seeing more of your future work :)

Happy Birthday!! I'm 64, and my birthday is in September. I'll be posting more work as I do more classes here. I'll be looking for your work as well.

What a fantastic class.  Sarah Burns is an amazing instructor.  This is my 2nd class with her and her soothing voice and clear instruction make it easy to follow along.  I am new to gouache and feel like I am slowly getting the hang of it.  Paint to water ratio is hard for me, so the fog took some time, but I stuck with it!  Loved spending the day with Sarah painting this amazing scene!
