Geometric Pegasus

Geometric Pegasus - student project

OK so this is not a Cactus! I did complete all of Jay’s projects but quickly went onto create something of my own.

The background is made up of 6 intersecting circles placed by using the ‘Transform’ tool and entering the x and y positions.

I chopped up the circles into their different overlapping shapes using ‘edit’, ‘geometry’ then selecting ‘subtract’, ‘intersect’ or ‘divide’. I filled in the sections with coloured line gradients then dropped the opacity on each shape so the you could still see the underlying shapes.

Trying to make the Pegasus shape using the pen tool was mind boggling to begin with - lots of mistakes made. I finally figured out it was just easier to draw any old shape or line, then use ‘edit’ under the pen options which allowed me to double tap anywhere on the contour line to add nodes and shift them about to my hearts content. Much quicker and more manageable.

I didn’t add any texture or shadows this time as the image is busy enough already.

A week ago I had never used a vector program. I’m impressed by what can be created with even just a few of the techniques shown by Jay. Completing this course now means I can analyse other people’s vector illustrations and have a good understanding of the techniques they probably used. Playing around on this app has been fun.Geometric Pegasus - image 1 - student project
