Gem in a Jar

Gem in a Jar - student project

This project was anything and everything my soul needed today. It brought back so many beautiful memories.

I grew up in Turkey and making pickles was an event for us. Our porch would be filled with freshly purchased vegetables, hosed down with a ton of water to get all the dirt and grime out. Jam packed in sterilized, giant glass jars, and topped with clean, heavy rocks to keep everything in place. I can remember the sun shimmering between the branches of our apricot tree, me and my brother playing the day away around our lovely mom.

I loved pickles so much, my mom would tease me I would marry a guy who owns a pickle shop. I got lucky because my husband is an amazing pickle maker. His latest experiment was zucchini pickle, and omg; IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!

This was a piece I put together using markers, high lighters, pencils, watercolor pencils; basically anything and everything within my reach. And once I was done, I played with it in Lightroom and Photoshop with all the skills I learned here on Skillshare. This has been my first year of being here, and I have been using it to the fullest. My membership is about to end, and having a free year of membership would just guarantee my growth as an artist.

Esther, thank you for this wonderful class, it has been a gem on a much needed day! <3
