Eisvogel

Eisvogel - image 1 - student project

I painted the first Kingfisher in my A5  etchr waterclour sketchbook (100% cotton).

I really like the turquoise back with the white spots.

Then I tried again in A4 on a Cellulose watercolor paper - much more difficult to find the correct amount of water and the timing was a challenge. Therefore the larger bird got more details to cover some of the incidents.

Thanks Nadine for always finding these perfect reference pictures and making it so easy to bring them on paper :-)

Small corrections after Nadines remarks:

I tried to even out the bend of the neck

Here the bent under the head was too much, therefore I just wanted to see, how it would look like and covered it with a piece of paper - much better ;-) ... I thought the head was too large in the beginning, but now it makes much more sense.
