For this assignment, I decided to letter the Mandela quote "It always seems impossible until it is done." As I was brainstorming I was thinking of the idea of tangling and how I could use that as a motif in my poster. 

For my moodboard. I wanted to look for inspiration that was less about letters and more about shapes and color.

Some of the thumbnails were more straightforward. But I wanted to push myself away from my go to layouts and try something a little different. I typically rough out about 12 thumbnails. When i do more I end up repeating myself but try to push yourself to do at least 12.

Ultimately, I went with the bottom left to sketch. 

I wanted the lettering to be fairly simple and let the words stand out and the tangled border work around the lettering.

Choosing colors was tricky because of the empty space. I still feel like I can play with the color more or perhaps more texture in the background. I wonder if my original sketch is doing a better job to convey my concept. The looseness of the line and texture has a lovely feel.
