I've honestly been having a ton of fun with this! I don't have acid dyes, however, and am not in a place to sink money into them, so I've been adapting the techniques to other dye/fiber types.

 

For my speckle dyeing effort, I used the only worsted weight wool I could find locally: Kinky Yarn. As you can see, it comes knit in a tube. You dye it and unravel it and it creates spots on its own. Made it a sensible option. For my dyes I used powdered turmeric, tea, and cochineal. The tea was a waste. The turmeric performed as expected. The cochineal took over. Seriously, it was even dyeing the undyed parts as I rinsed the hank! The end result was still pretty speckley, though, even before I pulled everything apart. Kinda leaning into space dyeing territory, but I was still pretty pleased with the result.

 

I've also been doing synthetic yarn with RIT Dye More, because Mum and I make things for a charity that can't accept wool. I've got some wonderful results out of the ombre techniques, especially the ball ombre. I think that may officially be my favorite dyeing technique.

The darker of the two was dyed pink, balled, and then dyed purple. The lighter one was a white ball that I set to soak in a shallow pink dye bath. Once it was done, I turned it around and let the other half sink in purple. It's a very different, but very fun effect.
