what a beautiful project Jane!! I love your trees, the patterns, and also the stylization (especially that blue one, with the 'upside-down' half-circle. Really cool!! You said you prefer bright colors but often end up muting them — how many pigments were you mixing to get each one? In general, the more pigments (aka colors) you mix in with each other, the more your color will become muted. But that's not the only reason, sometimes it's also about the 'type' of color you're using.  If you haven't tried out my Color Collector class yet, you might find that one interesting in that respect (it explains what I mean by that, in detail)! It's a pretty long class, but you can do it little by little, and you will learn SO MUCH about color mixing and how to get exactly the kinds of colors you're looking for. :) (You can also do the class with cheaper acrylic paint if you don't want to 'use' too much of your gouache!!) This is the one I mean: <a href="https://skl.sh/4auIQCw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">skl.sh/4auIQCw</a> In any case, I think you did an amazing job here, especially since it's one of your first times using gouache. I'm definitely not comfortable with mixing my colours yet. Although I like bold colours, I somehow ended up with muted colours. I used 5 colours. Probably should have left out the white.
