Farbrad-Mandala Teil 2 – Blumenblatt-Mandala

Well done, Edward. I love that you experimented with the Water Soluble Oil Pastels and that you chose to use the violet when you couldn't get a purple. You were asking yourself questions and finding your own solutions. My question to you now is "Do you understand why you could not achieve a purple with the pigments you were using?" Finding the answer to this question is where the magic of understanding how color works begins to happen in a big way. Please let me know what answer you come up with.

Thank you Chris. I think I couldn't get a violet with my colours because it has to do with warms and cools. I am still not grasping everything, but I think it has to do with that. I will watch your colour class again as I found that very helpful. (Edit, I changed my user name as I originally made the account under my partner)

Edward, uh I mean, Kimberley…You are on your way - you answered Chris’ question and already are at a point where you knew what direction the answer was in. GREAT!!! When I look back at my first simple mandalas and where I ended up going with them and color, it amazes me. It is all part of the magic of color and I am wildly thankful that I came across Chris’ classes. Enjoy yourself and watch yourself grow in color and mandala making.

Carol I also wanted to say thank you for your nice comment before. I'm getting to know this site and I got confused in the comments. haha  I am really enjoying Chris's lessons. She has been the first person who is really teaching for the "beginner" I so appreciate it. I'm taking her "puddle pulling" classes... so good. I also really appreciate her instructions with colour. I was annoyed at first cuz I just wanted to be told. haha but it's much better to "teach me to fish" :) I agree with you that I am glad I've found her classes.

Painting mandalas is a great way to study and relax simultaneously! Chris’ classes are of tremendous value to understand and learn about color. It is unfortunate you didn’t have at hand watercolor paint as this series is mostly built on using it as a medium to paint. Also I remember how beautifully Chris organizes her classes in series- you can start from part 1- the very beginning and slowly progress up- in Mandalas and in the most important technique- making the flat wash, or "pulling the paddle"- she is the best to explain it and show its secrets. Great start!

thank you. I do have some watercolour paint that I did a few other mandalas with. I didn't really like them so I didn't post them. lol kinda counter to what I really should do. haha I wanted to experiment with my oil pastels. I only have a small number of watercolours and I was having a hard time getting the colours I wanted so I thought I'd try my pastels. I love the soft look the pastels give. I own the Winsor &amp; Newton Cotman water Sketchers Pocket Box. It has 12 colours. I am so new at this and I have so much to learn, but I love the idea of learning while making beautiful mandalas. Thank you for the tips. I for sure will take all of Chris's classes as I find her an excellent teacher. Thank you again for commenting.

For a real deep-dive into how color really works, there are two courses on my website that you might want to check out, "Mixing gorgeous Color - Simplified" and "The Color Scheme Game. I would begin with The color Scheme Game because it's a very fun way to learn a great deal about color while also honing your drawing skills, design skills and learning VERY valuable lessons about Color Value. The "Mixing Gorgeous Color" is excellent and really goes into being able to predict the results of mixing the warm and cool variations of your three primary colors, Red, Yellow and Blue. It is definitely more tedious but if you stick with it you will truly understand color mixing and be able to recognize the characteristic of warm, cool and neutral in your colors. <a target="_blank" rel="noopener external nofollow" href="http://www.ChrisCarterArt.com">www.ChrisCarterArt.com</a>

I know it's not true to colour, but I'm ok with that this time. :) This is great practice, as well, to make mandalas. Such a clever idea to make colour wheels with mandalas. Thank you for this class.
