Colour Mixing Projects - student project

Project 1 - The Colour Wheel

Creating a Colour Wheel is the perfect way to get you started with colour mixing. You'll learn how to mix using just your three primary colours and start to understand how different colours interact with each other. If you’d like to use my template you can download it in the Projects and Resources section.

Project 2 - Mixing Natural Colours

Explore mixing your own natural and muted colours in your sketchbook. This will help you mix more accurate and realistic colours for your artworks, especially if you’d like to paint landscapes, wildlife or portraits.

Project 3 - Colour Temperature And Undertones

Learn how to recognise the undertones of different colours and develop your understanding of how this can impact your mixes. Get familiar with your own paint set and try mixing some challenging colours such as purples, turquoise and oranges. This will help you to identify whether you may need any additional colours in your paint kit.

Project 4 - Colour Matching Challenge!

Put your new colour knowledge into practice with a colour matching challenge. You can download my worksheets or create your own challenge using your own references. Your eye for colour will develop the more your practice so give yourself time, patience and freedom to experiment. The more colours you mix, the better you will get!
