What a fantastic result, Patti. I really enjoyed reading about your colour choices and how you adapted your mixes, that kind of experimentation is so valuable. The candle has such a beautiful glow and the transitions in your colour studies look smooth and vibrant. It is great to hear you found it useful practice, that thoughtful approach really shows in the final piece.

thank you Will. I appreciate your feedback. The Naples yellow I used was too opaque. I can't remember what brand it is. Maybe I was a bit too heavy with the application. But Cad yellow is perfect!  And mixing purples......another story right there. I find again I have to use a cool red to make a vibrant purple.  But maybe that could be a class on mixing vibrant purples? Again, I could be too heavy with the mixes and just need to practice more.  Thanks again. Loved the class.

It is great to hear you are experimenting with different pigments and noticing how they behave, that awareness is such an important part of the process. Your approach to mixing and exploring colour is really coming through in your work, and it is lovely to see that curiosity. I used Cotman Turquoise ( I had an old tube-still good as new), Pyrrole Scarlet and Cad medium Yellow.  I always have trouble with creating purple unless I use magenta or Quin Rose, So I added some Quin Rose to get a purple in the background which I added after the fact.Its all good.  Nice practice. I started out with Scarlet lake but wasn't happy with the mixes. Then used Pyrrole Scarlet.
