Collage a Collection - Foliage

I started by thinking of the type of objects I wanted to collage as a collection.  I liked a few ideas but leaves were the topic I picked because I like drawing foliage and it was springtime.

I collected lots of leaves and then started to draw the leaves so I could see which ones I wanted in the collection.

I then created some tracings:

and then created the papers for the collage by experimenting with all my art materials such as watercolour, acrylic, pastel, pen, ink, colouring pencils, oil pastel.

I then cut out from my tracings and started my collages, glued them together and arranged them.  Some of the papers didn't work, I created loads of them! There was plenty of choice.

Finally I scanned in all my elements, worked out a pleasing composition, cleaned up the edges, boosted the contrast and changed the background colours in Photoshop.

I decided to make a pattern so duplicated my arrangement and arranged the elements.  I used this file for these mock ups as I wanted to see how it looked on products.

I finished my 'Collage a Collection' project! It was fun and I love the way the collage gives it a different look especially with the textured papers I created.
