Chain-Stitched Nasturtium
I've had a light denim jacket in my closet, waiting most of the year for a first attempt at embroidery, and as an old-time/country fiddler I was drawn immediately to the chain-stitch style.
Inspired by old botanical illustrations, I used Procreate to illustrate a nasturtium design. The thought was a design that either moved down the side of the jacket, or mirrored on the other side—but as a first project I picked a smaller space for accomplishment's sake.
I ended up needing to go back and simplify the design and add an outline, but overall it wasn't too difficult to replicate, using the original sketch as suggestion. I chose a dark purple thread for the outline, ending up with four colors of thread.

I had some great downtime over the holidays to finish the bulk of the embroidery. I had such a great time with it, that my next steps will be to decide how to expand it along the garment, and then put the finishing threads and bling on afterwards.

Jacket with nasturtium embroidery! The style feels so different, likely because it's not a western-style jacket. My thoughts to make the garment complete are to add more flowers down the same panel, including green nasturtium leaves. And/or along the opposite side (there's an odd pocket there). I think the collar would look great with pick-stitching, and I'd like to add rhinestones once I finalize the rest.
Really enjoyed the class, was inspiring and easy to follow along!
