Here are examples from my butterfly sketchbook :)
I would love to hear your thoughts, so please leave a comment and let me know what you think!
Project 1 - Inky Butterfly Garden

I absolutely LOVE painting with chopsticks!! If you have taken other classes from me, you will see this technique used on other subjects, such as whimsical faces.
It is super fun to just let loose and let the lines be thick and thin, blobby and skipping. They are just so interesting and unexpected!
I hope you will try it.
Project 2 - Loose & Sketchy Butterfly

For the second project, we are keeping with our loose and sketchy theme and painting an imaginary butterfly. I started with a loose & sketchy pencil drawing with my favorite colored pencil, the Magic Pencil. It has multiple colors in one mark, and it is just fabulous!!
Next, I used a wet on wet technique to paint the first glaze of the butterfly. After it dried, I added more layers and details, and even changed up the shape of the wings as I felt I needed to do.
And last, I wrote, using my own handwriting, a title and a little poem.
This page is far from perfect! I even messed up when I was writing and left off a word, which I had to go back and correct.
The point is not perfection.
The point is to get painting and have fun!!
I will update this project as I fill in my sketchbook. So check back in soon!
Happy Painting,
Jessica
UPDATE 1: Explore Texture 2-Page Spread
Illustrated Journal: Fill a Sketchbook with Butterfly Inspired Art

This is a two-page spread with 5 panels of painting goodness. For this spread, I am exploring texture and sticking with my butterfly theme. I created different types of texture for each section/panel. I used salt water, water drops, a cotton ball, salt and cling wrap. It was so much fun.
And rainbow colors! Yay!
UPDATE 2 - Painterly Gouache Butterflies
