Aquarell Birkenbäume - Negative Maltechnik

Hi Elsa, thank you so much for sharing your amazing paintings! I love them all, but my favorite is the one with blue and orange background, it has such a lovely illustration-like feeling to it, I will try that one myself :) maybe because there are no leaves, it looks more clean and I like it! Thank you for inspiration :)

Thank you.  That one was the last one I did, and I did pencil in leaves, but was so eager to try a different background I forgot to mask them!

haha, I love how some of the best results in art often come from "mistakes" :) btw could you share the brand of the paper you used, I like the texture (it is visible especially in the first one). Thanks!

The first is arches cold press.  the second two were arches hot press.  I'm trying to decide which I like better.  For just painting iike this, I tlike cold.  But I often do ink drawings with a light wash, and like the hot better for that, I think.

These were scrap pieces from cutting up a large sheet - the most economical way to get it

I use arches a lot, too... and similarly, for pure watercolor I  use cold press, and if I combine it  with other media like gouache, ink or colored pencils, I like the smooth surface of hot press better. And I know that many people complain about the smell of arches paper when wet, but I just LOVE that smell!

Gosh - I've never noticed that at all.  I'll have to pay attention to the smell!
