Bergamot Tea Based Blend
I set out to create a more flavorful version of a tea blend I frequently enjoy for its health benefits. Earl Grey—a black tea infused with the zest of bergamot orange—is a consistent favorite of mine, though I often find its flavor lacking depth due to the overpowering of the black tea over the citrus. To elevate the experience, I decided to introduce a touch of freshness and complexity by blending it with dried herbs from my own garden.
I added one part chocolate mint, one part spearmint, and half a part lemongrass to the Earl Grey base and allowed the mix to steep for almost five minutes. For the final tasting, I poured the tea and sweetened it with a dollop of local wildflower honey.
Overall, I’m thrilled with the additional health benefits this blend offers, and I’m equally pleased with the outcome in terms of taste. Honey alone never quite softened the bold black tea notes for me; however, the mints balanced out the tea’s natural robustness, creating a smoother, more harmonious flavor. The lemongrass added a subtle bridge, tying the bergamot and mint together into a cohesive whole. This blend leaves me excited to explore more combinations in the future.
