Beginning Acrylics: Introduction to Acrylics and the Painting Process

Class Project:

Acrylic Painting - "Sunset at the Lake"

The project for this course will be for you to create this painting using acrylic paints and my seven-step painting process outlined here:

1 - Underpainting

2 - Transferring the Design

3 - Blocking in the Dark Values

4 - Adding the Medium Values (Midtones)

5 - Adding the Light Values

6 - Adding the Details and Highlights

7 - Protecting Your Artwork

I’ll go over the Materials you'll need and then give a couple demonstrations on Paint Mixing and Values, then I'll go over each step for the painting in detail, giving you tips and tricks of the trade along the way. You’ll be able to paint along with me and pause or replay the video if you need more time OR play it through as many times as you need and then paint the Class Project when you're ready.

Share Your Artwork:

When you've finished Class Project Painting, share your artwork with me by uploading a photo of it to the Submit Project section. (It's the blue button on the right.) There, I will be able to see your artwork and give you feedback!

*You're welcome to share the Paint Mixing Exercise as well or instead of the painting. Either way, I'd love to see your work and get to know you better.

Others taking the class will also be able to view your submission and type comments. It's a great way to encourage each other in our learning process.

I'm looking forward to seeing your creativity and helping you learn this fun and versatile medium!

Happy painting,
