Afternoon Nap

Afternoon Nap - student project

I'm new to Procreate and all the brushes so I love learning all I can. I realized much of what I had been drawing were flat. Not much depth. This was a great way to stretch my skills and get me thinking in a new way. I'm glad for the composition lessons some I remember from years past, and some were new!

I didn't know what to draw for my scene, but didn't have to look too far to find my subject!

Here is my rough sketch. I used the grid to place my subject. I loved using Karla's idea for using a circle to draw the flowers!

Next I refined my sketch.

I used color to draw attention to my kitty. I loved the way it turned out, but thought it still lacked depth.

So today, I went back in and added more hills and trees in the distance. The last addition was the moon - or is it the sun? Both can be seen during the day!

I imagine my little kitty enjoying an afternoon nap in a field of flowers as the sun begins to set. The little bird lands on her back and sings sweet lullabies as she sleeps.

I struggled wether or not to make the bird more visible with a brighter or contrasting color, but decided to just let the cat have it all this time. I'll get braver as I practice more!! lol

I really, really enjoyed this class. It got my creative juices flowing! Karla presented the information in easy-to-follow lessons with wonderful examples, which I find are so very helpful. I feel like I've stepped into a whole new world of illustrating and am excited to use what I learned here to create many more enchanting illustrations!

Thanks Karla!!
