Abstract Gradients

Abstract Gradients - student project

I love playing around with the Gradient Meshes and different exciting abstract shapes and compositions you can create by distorting them!

This ended up being one of the more complex mesh-based artworks I have created so far, featuring a lot of different hues which beautifully blend together, sophisticated but controlled mesh distortions and some additional graphic elements which add more volume, visual interest and detail to the composition.

Stage 1: Developing Mesh Structure & Distortions

Getting started with distorting the mesh in shades of grey to concentrate purely on the structure of the mesh distortions and the general shapes and composition in the mesh.

Stage 2: Developing the Colour Version

After finalising the black and white version, the fun begins! During these stages I quickly recoloured the whole artwork and then worked on refining the colour transitions and adjusting the shapes in the mesh to create the desired final composition.

Stage 3: Further Development & Finishing Touches

During this stage I’ve added some graphic elements to the composition to customise it and add more depths to it, and I also added grain and enhanced the overall colours to finalise the artwork.

Ideas for Use

Originally intended as an art print and a digital wallpaper, this artwork makes fun interior decor prints when applied to different products!

Fragments of this artwork could also work well as elements of packaging design for some craft (e.g. paint) or FMSG products (drinks or confectionary packaging), as well as for any corporate print materials (e.g. posters, banners, access or bank cards, or sim cards).
