AI IN EVERYDAY PRODUCTS – CLASS PROJECT 1. Smartphone – Face Unlock Description: A smartphone can

1. Smartphone – Face Unlock

Description:

A smartphone can use Artificial Intelligence to recognize the owner's face and unlock the device.

Components:

• AI – Face recognition and image processing

• Software Engineering – Mobile operating system and security software

• Physical Product Design – Camera, sensors, processor and display

How the components work:

The camera captures the user's face. The AI model analyzes facial features such as the distance between the eyes, nose shape and face structure. The model compares these features with the registered face data.

AI data and possible issues:

The AI model can be trained using many different face images with different lighting, angles and expressions. Problems may occur because of poor lighting, masks, changes in appearance or similar-looking faces. Bias can also occur if the training data does not represent different types of faces equally.

2. Netflix – Recommendation System

Description:

Netflix uses AI to recommend movies and TV shows based on what users are likely to enjoy.

Components:

• AI – Recommendation and prediction models

• Software Engineering – Netflix application, databases and streaming system

• Physical Product Design – Smart TVs, smartphones, tablets and other devices used to watch Netflix

How the components work:

The AI analyzes information such as viewing history, searches, ratings, genres watched and how long users watch a particular program. It uses this information to predict which content a user may like.

AI data and possible issues:

The model can use large amounts of user activity and content-related data. Recommendations can sometimes become repetitive or inaccurate when a user's interests change. The system may also create a limited viewing experience by repeatedly recommending similar types of content.

3. Google Maps – Route Prediction

Description:

Google Maps uses AI to help users find routes, predict traffic and estimate travel time.

Components:

• AI – Traffic prediction, route optimization and location prediction

• Software Engineering – Maps application, databases and navigation software

• Physical Product Design – Smartphones, GPS sensors and vehicle navigation systems

How the components work:

GPS and other location data are used to understand traffic conditions and road movement. AI analyzes historical and real-time data to predict traffic and suggest suitable routes.

AI data and possible issues:

The system can use GPS information, historical traffic patterns, road information and real-time traffic data. Predictions may be incorrect because of accidents, road closures, unusual traffic or incomplete information. GPS errors can also affect the suggested route.

Conclusion:

These three products show that AI is often combined with software engineering and physical hardware. AI helps products understand data, make predictions and provide personalized services, but the accuracy of AI depends heavily on the quality and variety of the data used.
