HOOK

I was late to class and somehow, I became the LESSON.

SETUP

The night before class, i made a decision i knew i'd regret.
I stayed on a call for hours, chatting endlessly, fully aware i'd have to be up early the next morning,we kept talking, i tossed and turned in bed as i continued the conversation, convincing myself i'd hang up soon.
Soon became 3:00AM. By the time we said our goodnight, i wasn't unable to sleep, so i put on spotify and played white noise to ease myself into sleeping.

When i opened my eyes the next morning, it was past 9am and class was for 11am.

BUILD
I rushed out of the house, but i already lost race against time, the distance from where i live and the venue was quite a distance.
As i journeyed through the chaotic traffic, every delay and inconveniece i experienced was a reminder that my choices has consequences.
The blazing sun
The packed buses
The endless stops.
Worst when the driver pulled over to get fuel,it honestly felt personal (if anyone you could here my thought in that moment) i didn't have a say as it was public transport i could afford,as each stop were made and passengers alighted at their bustop, i said to myself- i could have done better.
Hastingly, Got to my location, hurried up the stairs, got to class, apologised to Mr Jeffrey and he simply smiled.

CHANGE
A few minutes into class, Mr Jeffrey announced the topic:- COMMUNICATION and STORYTELLING,
then he picked up the marker, wrote on the board: I was late - Norah, he circled my name, the room laughed, in that moment it felt like i had been made an example, then i realised he wasn't trying to embarass me, my lateness became an opening scene for him to teach the class on storytelling.

REFLECTION
That day i learnt something i would never forget, i understood from that moment stories aren't powerful because they're perfect, stories are powerful because they're honest.

What felt like my biggest mistake that morning became the very lesson i came to class to learn, sometimes the thing you are trying to hide is the story someone else needs to hear.

And that is the power of storytelling, it doesn't just retell moments (like i am doing now) IT GIVES THEM MEANING.
