A Little Pastry Study
I bought myself a Hahnemühle sketchbook that I had been dying to use, so I decided to make this class the very first spread.

I worked with the supplies and colors I already had, mixing and adjusting them as closely as I could to match the reference. Since I didn’t have masking fluid, I worked backwards to create the salt on the pretzels: first adding dark brown speckles for the shadows, then dotting white Posca pen over them for the lightest highlights.

You can also see my little swatch tests in the corner. I usually leave those in my sketchbook spreads so I can remember how I arrived at each hue.
To finish everything off, I added as much texture as I could with colored pencils and Neocolor crayons. I loved experimenting with the different materials and creating this sweet little pastry spread.
