A Dog With a Secret
"A Dog With a Secret" is the illustration project that I have been making during the class recording. I'll go through the steps to show you exactly how I made this illustration:
1. Starting with the geometric shapes, from the class template:
2. Then I modified the shapes and drew the characters/objects that I associated with those shapes:
3. The storyline that connected all those little drawings was as follows: A newly engaged girl was moving to a new house with her dog. The house had circular windows through which curious googly eyes peered out. She stood on the pathway, wearing a skirt, aware that the house contained a piñata and boxes waiting to be unpacked. Meanwhile, a beehive hung from a nearby tree.
This was the rough sketch, that illustrated the story:
4. Afterwards, I roughly applied some colors, to have a basic understanding of where the story was going. In this process, the googly eyes moved from the house into the tree:
5. It was time for me to reimagine this story in my own style. I decided to merge the girl and the dog into a single character, using a beehive and a piñata as inspirations. I combined elements such as the shape of a tree, googly eyes, and a box in the design.
6. As a next step, I sketched the main shapes that would later become a new illustration.
7. Then I brought the dog image as a reference and made the clean outlines:
8. Then I applied the colors, textures, and details, which would make the illustration almost ready.
9. Finally, I used the "mirroring technique" that I explained in detail during the class, to correct the main mistakes and add the final touches. Here's the final result:
That's it! Thank you for checking my project. If you have any questions, please let me know on the discussion page.
Enjoy your day!
