So you want to learn how to edit (drone) video? 

It can be very frustrating and difficult to get started as a beginner. When discovering Davinci Resolve you will go from zero to hero in no time and you will learn all the skills you need to edit a video from your own footage in less than 30min. I still remember the frustrations about getting even a simple project done with video editing tools when I first started. I can shorten your learning curve significantly by sharing my experience and help you explore the best FREE tools available for video editing.       

We will be using Davinci Resolve 16 that is available for FREE on the Blackmagic website. There is a paid version as well, that offers many more advanced features, but your work will not be wasted as the workflow is the same in case you decide to upgrade later.  

You need no prior video edit skills when joining, and you will be amazed by what you will be able to accomplish completing this tutorial on the NEW version of the Davinci Resolve.

1. Introduction : So you want to learn how to edit video? It could be very frustrating and difficult to get started as a beginner. When you discover DaVinci resolve, you will go from zero to hero in no time and learn how to edit your own footage in less than 30 minutes. Welcome, I'm Henry goals in the online content creator and filmmaker with more than four years of experience in editing videos for YouTube and plants, I still remember the frustration that I had getting even a simple video project on with the video tools. When I first start, I could Jordan your learning curve by sharing my experience and have you explored absolutely best free tool for radio. Anything you need no prior experience in video and think before you are joining. But you will be amazed what you can accomplish by completing this course on the new version off the region. Result. And that's a promise, really be using the Version 16 that is available for free on the Black Magic website. Davinci Resolve 16: Welcome to this. The avenging resolve 60 from zero to hero became as to toil. If you're new to the Vinci Resolved, this is a complete video editor for your region projects allowing you to handle basic media . Adding text to your footage performed visual and audio corrections to call operating and add visual effects. This really will be a basic introduction based on a the free version without watermarks. Create Project: Let's move on to launching the software, As I assume by now that you know how to download and install the correct version matching your operating system. The Vinge of resolve is available for both Windows and Mac. The first queen that you see when you launch the software is the Project Management Page, where you see an overview off your existing projects. All your projects and media files are stored in one single database called local Database. You have the option to create a new database in case that you want to store that on external media, which could be helpful if you want to transfer projects between computers for this to try, and we will continue to use the local database and we will create a new project by hitting the new project button where we have the option to name our project like that. 4. Workspace & Workflow: This is how the main work interface looks like it's divided into seven workspaces supporting a workflow going from left to right, starting with the media tap where you can browse, import, preview and manage your own media. The cut page. But you can do fast and precise streaming off your media the any page where you could do placing modifications and built your video project on a timeline. The Fusion Page where you can add visual effects to your footage. The color page is dedicated for color, correction and color. Grading off the footage. The Fairlie page is dedicated to working with audio with the delivery tap you can set and render your project into a final video. In the beginning to join, we will go over the following workspaces media and IT caller and delivery. The color workspace can occupy a whole video on its own. So in this beginner to trial, the Colle attack will be limited to crazy color correction to fix exposure and y pounds in your shots 5. Import Media: Under the medium workspace, you will be able to import video, audio and pictures. Start by browsing your computer and locate the footage that you want to import. Managing The Timeline: start your video project by adding clips to the timeline by simply highlighting the clips and dragging them into the timeline is clip will be shown as a blue par, with the length equal to the duration in relation to the timeline. If the clip contains both audio and video, they all your part will be positioned at the audio track marked with green, and the video will be positioned at the video track marked by plu. When I pulled down the next clip, it will automatically snap to the rear end off the previous clip, making very easy to make a continuous timeline. You can enable and disable the snapping function by the magnet up here. Once that is enabled, the clips will snap together. You can change how the clips appear on the timeline by enabling the timeline view options. It makes perfectly sense. You can adjust the height off the video track and the audio track with the slyness. That's just beauty all your track. For now, what you will notice is that you have a split window up here and the one on the right side that will show what the timeline sees, and you can use the one on the left side. So show previous off the footage that you're dragging into the timeline. If you think that is confusion, you can simply chase that by placing the single view button. Then it belongs. Show what you see on the timeline. The timeline supports multiple tracks. I could basically create a new track by simply dragging the footage on top. Offer the previous kid. And again, let's mute the audio track not to destroy this to toil but you will see now is that the upper track has the highest priority, so in a move here, it would shift to the other footage. The video tracks are labeled with the V, followed by number equal to the audio tracks, Weds and a followed by number. Each track can be locked individually so you can move the rest off the timeline without affecting the the clip that it's been locked. You can also decide to hide a track similar to what we did with the audio. These are pretty handed to know The worst thing that can happen when you work in a video project is that you lose your work and that that can happen with a complex software like resolve, as it will crash once in a while. But there's a easy shortcut that will allow you to save your work. And that is a command s for Mac or control s for windows. So remember those short cuts are that short con temple Be very beneficial, especially if it says ending up here in the top line. Let's just do that. Make sure to save your work frequently. 7. Managing Clips: it's individual clip on. The timeline can be very easily moved to a new position by just highlighting and dragging it to the new place. But make sure that you don't at them into the same track because that would cut your original footage. Then you would end up cutting your original clip. So in case you want to change it, there's parts of it missing, so make sure to keep them in their own track when you move them around. But should this happen anyway? That's an easy way to fix the original footage. You would simply just highlight the footage like this, and then you can drag it back and fill out the blank space. So try to avoid a cutting Internet original footage and simply keep it on separate tracks like this. And, as you saw before, adding new clip on the top allowed automatically create a new video and audio track. If I want to show on my footage in between these two clips, I can just position has our snaps to the first part. Then I need to select the remaining clips and track them backwards like that. Then I can move the kids into position pretty for the audio and video holding together. But I don't want that. I can simply press the chain I cannot hear and I can move the audio away from the video cape. And then we're tell me exactly how much they're separated and I could simply lock them again and then they will stay with this offset. Let's say that I want to change the duration off a clip that I've added to the timeline. Maybe it's too long. Let's say that this clip is longer than I wanted to be. And I can simply mark the clip like this and then their track in the end and drag it down to the lake that I want. And that works for poor things like that. I can change the playback speed by simply highlighting the clip. Right, clinging, selecting change clips. Speed. Right now the fall is 100. I could make it twice is five by adding in 200%. So now the clip would be twice as fast. I can also slow the clip down. That means that I need to enter a percentage value that this below 100. I can reverse a clip if I want to do that by going into the same menu and selecting reverse , and now the clip will play bag in reverse, you need to be careful about reversing clips if that people are moving objects in them as they moved backward, you could very easy copy a clip by simply selecting them, holding down the option key, one dragging them. In this way, I can add stuff to the original footage without changing it. There's a ton of stuff that you could do in him, but let me just give you an example what you can actually do. I simply select the media in Boxer. Then I select the effects library. Then I go on the tools, for instance, that some effects here and I can maybe, I don't know, put some Braves on here like that, and that will add a modification to my footage. So if I played back, you'll be able to see that some light race added to the car so you can add all sorts of stuff from in here that would modify the footage and the way it's working is that you're just adding notes in between the in and the out note here. You want options that you have to modify directly from the Mainly We start by selecting the clip, and then we go up here on this menu where we select transform. Use Inspector to Modify Clips: if changing the food is and through the main view is not sufficient. And we have something here in the upper right corner. Condi Inspector, which is a very powerful tool. The inspector shows all the properties for the current clip. Use Keyframes to Change Clips over Time: you can apply changes to the footage over time by using key frames. Let's use this clip and apply. Assume on the side mirror. Let's say that I wanna have the side mirror stay in approximately the same precision during it. Assume instead of dropping out off the screen like that, I simply position it at the first assume key frame like this and then I will activate a key frame for the position para meters. Add Transitions and Text: under the effects library, you have access to a variety of tools that will help you enhance your timeline. You will be able to add media transitions, order transitions, titles and effects. You apply a video transition by selectively transition and driving it to the end. Off the clip. You remove the transition by simply highlighting it. Pressing backspace. You can decide that the transition should affect two clips next to each other. You simply drag the transition on top of both clips. The duration of his transition can be changed by selecting it and dragging into the society oration the properties offer. The transition can be changed through the inspector, and you have key frame options similar to a standard clip as well for super fade in and Fade actually at them directly. By dragging these markets at the end of each clip for audio, you have the option to add across fate. To make the transition less harsh, you can add a title to fix library. You can drag and drop text into the timeline and simply stretch it like you would do with their video clip into the saturation. You can change the standard text through the inspector, you could change all the standard things about your text, precision and orientation, the fun face, color, size, tracking and all the stuff that you would expect that you will be able to change. You could also select to go for one of the more animated titles included with results. Also, with this type of title, the text could be changed through the inspector. 13. Basic Color Correction (exposure, white balance, saturation): Let's jump to the color attempt, the cull attacked. That's a really, really powerful tool on DaVinci resolve, and it's, ah, way beyond the scope off this to toil. But I will show you how you take a single clip and fix the exposure, the white balance and the saturation. We're starting out by subjecting the clip that you want to fix and a good candidate is this strong clip as it shot in a relatively flat color profile that would make it look de saturated and flat. Let's see if we can break that one back to life. There are some good tools in result that will help us do this, and those are located on the scopes. And what would be looking for is the way forms. Let's just detach it so we can take a closer look. The scope is a visual representation off the color levels inside the footage, where the top level here indicates pure white, and the base level indicates pure black. So what we want to do is we want to maximize our footage within this space to get a maximum contrast in the image. Were doing that through the color wins that is located below left, where lift is dedicated for changing the shadows or dark areas off the image. The gain will change the highlights. Comma will change the mid tones and offset will provide a general offset off all three of them. You're changing the exposure level by changing the wheel that is located below each color wheel. So let's job by setting the blacks in the image as close as we can to zero. Then we're adjusting the highlights just a tiny bit, making sure that they are not being clipped at the upper limit off the way form the mid tones. We will adjust those a little bit down to increase the contrast in the image. So let's continue to fixing the white balance. And for that purpose, we have eyedropper tool down here that's called white balance, and we simply go and find somewhere inside the picture that that is white like that. And what do we see that then it fixes the white balance in the image, So that's the easiest way forward. So now, with the white balance fixed, the picture still looks a little bit flat and t saturated, but we could easily fix that by adding a little bit more saturation with simply go over the saturation down here below the color wheels. And then we just pull that one up. So maybe 60. We can also go to the second tap here, and we can change the temperature. If we don't like it, we can change the temperature a little bit. We can warm the picture up a little bit like this. Put that at 2 50 we dragged amounts back and forward to set these premiers. Or you could simply just type into 50 like that. We could also decide to push the colors a bit by the color boost to make the image really pop. Let me just show you what it looked like before. But this is what it looked like and this is the end result. That's a fuse difference. Let me just show you how you replicate it. This color correction to other clips recorded with same camera. You're simply going to the frame that you just call her corrected, then repressive, right? And then grab still. Export your project into a Video: Now we made our basic color correction. Let's move on delivering the project from the liver pate. You could decide if you want to export the whole project only part of a project under the render settings. You could decide to export directly to YouTube video or export to some of the other former supported by any things off. You can also decide to export all your track alone. I would recommend custom to maintain the full control of the process, then name your video and pick a location. And in this case, we were just put it in the result folder. Then we reduced the video 10. 80 p and added to the ridicule. Once it's in the render queue to make the final radio, we need to start rendering. And now result rendered the footage into a final video on the location that we just elected . Let's just take a look on the end result 15. Final Video: 16. Class Asignment: your class assignment is to make a 62nd video based on your own foot using DaVinci Resolve 16 and uploaded to your class. The topic is free, The only limitation in 60 seconds. You don't need to wait uploading until you have the final video. You can upload it during the process and get feedback underway. I'm really looking forward, seeing what you can come up with.
