1. Into. Class overview: Hello, guys. My name is Max and welcome to my class in this class I'm going to teach you a professional portrait that you workflow. You will learn how to work efficiently, get great results and not to spend too much time on this class is based on very powerful all the one for the shop action that I created based on many YouTube tutorials that I watched and I chose the ones which great great results. But Ivory Zito, the class will follow all the cakes. We will start from frequencies separation Doje and Birdie working on the eyes on er teas ending for you and I will show you multiple ways halted the color correction. I will be also giving you tips how to increase your efficiency by using keyboard shortcuts and two presents. Okay, let's with the filler. Let's get started 2. Setup your enviroment to be efficient: I guess so. One of the first things that I would like to teach in this class is called toe work. Efficiently and fisting that we need to do is we need to set up our work environment and let's start with our desk. So first, remove all the disturbing elements from your desk and only leave your computer mouse and the tablet. If you're serious about photography, and you will be taken lots of pictures and anything them. This little guy will save you a lot of time and you don't need to buy anything expensive. This small and simple tablet works really well. Okay, so also, we need to prepare the workspace in for a shock. Okay, so now we need to set up environment in photo shop when they first opened it. It's not really helpful. The default layout doesn't have the tools that we will be using. So the easiest way to set up the workspace would be to get this file. I have attached this file to the class, and then you need to put it toe this folders. This folder works for Windows. This folder. Look for Mac. So breast video on post and copy this file for this folder. After you copy the file, you need to restart for the shop and you will be able to choose window workspace and select portray its workspace that I've created for you. So this will set up all the taps and you can go to editing. But if something doesn't work, let me show how to do it manually. So that's a reset. Let's go back to defaults. Okay, so this is the default layout. So first thing, let's just close the default taps that we don't need. Library color swatches. We don't need that properties. Close it. Adjustments. We don't need adjustments. So let's keep this step with the layers. Will be working with layers a lot. So let's keep it right here. Okay? So now we need to add another taps to fisting. We need to add a navigator dragon drop and place it right here. Okay. Perfect. Next step will be two presets game drag and drop it under the navigator. That's just it. A little bit. Make it a little wider. Make this a little weather to Okay, Cool. Let's add another one. The history drag and drop it right here. That's just it. You don't need to my space for two presets, but you want your history to be a large enough. And let's add the last one the actions. Okay, Perfect. Okay, so we have our taps configured, so next thing we need to do is we need to load to presets, and we need to load the actions to do it. You press this, but, um, and you choose and you choose load or replace. If you want to add to the existing true princess, you press load. But if you want to completely replace two presents with the new ones you press replace and then you need to choose the file that I have also attached to this class. Portrayed tools. Click load. It will ask you if you want to imprint as brushes or as to see you click. Lord Estelle's their ego. You have your two presets ready. Next thing to do is you need to add the actions against simply click on this button and choose load or replace. Since we don't have anything, I can click on load and also choose to file that I have attached to this class board Great actions and click load defict. Okay, so you we have our workspace set up. We have the layer tap with all the layers tool, presets, history, actions and, of course, the navigator. Great. So now we all set to go retouching. 3. Basic edits in Lightroom / CameraRAW: Okay, so let's start our retouching workflow. So I will start in light room, but you can start in a double bridge or just open the raw image from for the shop first. What we need to do is we need to open it in the editor. It can be lead from editing top and let room Or it can be I came. A role doesn't matter because all the controls are the same. They just arranged differently. So I'm starting with let room. And what we need to do at this stage is very simple and minor correction, very basic. So we need to adjust the white balance exposure contrast highlights. And that would be pretty much kid. So let's start. So with with the white balance, if he got it right in camera, then you will probably not need to do anything about it. But you just want to change it from left to right until you start, like in this skin tones. Well, I think the skin tones were all right from the beginning, so we'll leave it right here. The exposure maybe. Let's make it just a little bit brighter. The contrast I will not touch the contrast highlights. I always tend to bring the highlights down because this is how I get more information from the highlights. More skin texture. It will be more. It will be easier to work with it in the future, so and decrease the highlights. See if we need to increase the shadows year. We increase the shadows and we have more details in your hair. So I use a short cut to go and compare before and after. We're very basic improvements. This is the before this is the after very basic. We don't need to do anything because we will do the majority off work in for a show. Maybe I will decrees the exposure a little bit. Yeah, I think it's OK. We didn't do much changes with That's alright guys who just want you to understand that at this stage you only need to do very basic adjustments. Okay, we don't and let's go into for the shop. You're right. Click on the picture and you select, edit and upload the picture in for shop 4. Clean up: Okay. Perfect. So we have a picture loaded in for the shop and we start from cleaning up the face, so I'll be using time. Let's switch it on first. So I use my left hand and use keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out, and I use my tablet to navigate. But if you're using the mouse, you can use this one. It's really helpful, or you compress on the space bar and use your mouse to navigate around the image. Okay, I get usedto keyboard shortcuts, so I will be using them. Okay, so let's remove the blemishes from here face. We can do it with two tools. One tool is called sport healing brush. It's really cool, and it's automatic, so you just adjust the brush size and you clean. You click on the problematic area and will automatically remove the problem, and you just click around the whole face. This is cool, but it doesn't give you any control because it automatically chooses the area from which the sample. So I don't really like that, too. My favorite one is patch toe. It's also super quick and easy, but it just gives you a little bit more control. So what you need to do is you select the problem area and you drag toe the area from where you want to sample. And this is where the tablet helps a lot, because on the mouse you don't really. Your movements are not really precise, and it's just taking slower. You can still do it, but with the tablet is just much, much quicker. Okay, so on the stage, if you want to address only this small, it's under the small problems that blemishes the little imperfections. You don't want to do anything with the big areas like their soul like this, and remember to work around the whole photograph, not only her face or her buddy, but you might find other disturbing elements that you would like to remove so you can just removed with the same batch. Stool This way is not really clean, but for this portray, it works quite well. Okay, so let's zoom in and let's check if we need to remove anything else so you can take your time and find all the small imperfections that you want to remove. Yet, okay, I think we did a good job, and we can move on to the next stage 5. Skin smoothing with Frequency Separation: Okay, Perfect. So we have We have the image cleaned up and now we can move to the action. So you click on the action and you click Click play and it will start creating the adjustment layers. One of the just one layer that I have created for you guys is the frequency separation layer. So in order to configure the frequency separation lair, you need to choose the blur radius. The way to do it is you click on the area off the image which has the details, and then you decrease the radios back to one, and then you start increasing the radius and you need to stop. When the details will start to disappear. He can use it with keyboard keys. So we go cup. And I noticed that for my poor trades, for my style numbers somewhere between 12 and 15 work. So typically, you know, I don't even change this number. The default was 15 and it works for most off the portrait. So for this case, let's use 40. Just click, OK, and wait until the action will finish creating all the adjustment layers. When the action is complete, you will see this folder Corrections. And if you click on the folder, you will see all the adjustments layers thes action has created for you. And this is really both for guys because this is the algorithm. So this is what you will be doing to each and every photograph. But the results are very different because this is just logic. And what makes it different is how you use this letters toe what intensity? So let's go one by one, and I will show you what you can do with it. Okay, so let's start from closing this one. We start from the bottom and we go all the way up. So the first it just one layer is the frequency separation. When you click on the folder to expanding, you see two layers. The first layer where you have the tones and the second layer is with the details again. If you don't know what the frequency separation is, it's the mathematical way off, splitting the image into two images, the one that has the tones and another one that has the details. But if you combine them all together, you will have your initial image and the reason to do it is to protect the ones while you're engaging another so you can work on the tones and make the skin look very smooth without affecting or blurring the details so her skin texture will stay sharp. But you can make, um, the skin look much more smooth and remove the bloodiness in the skin. Okay, so let's do so. First, make sure that you have selected the tones because if you will accidentally select the details, you'll get really strange results, so make sure you selected tones. So for this exercise, we will be using the last so you can select the lesson from here. Or you can click on L and select lessons and look on your two presets. You have to tools the last tool with 10 pixels and less until less so lasso tool with zero pixels. So, for with the frequency separation, you will need this one. With Tim. It has 10 pixel feather, and it will create smooth edges off the selection. You don't want sharp edges because you will see the affected area. You don't You don't want that. Okay, so you select this last and you select the first area with some bloodiness in the skin, which you would like to remove, so in order to remove it unit to blur this area to blur it, you go to filter blur, and each is Garson Blur. But there is a quicker way to do it. You can assign at keyboard Shook it, which I already did its control be is the way. Just click on it and you will have girls on Blur Window, and you need to put the same radios as you used for the frequency separation stage and then click. OK, don't. So now you need to choose. The next area, which has some blush, is any need to remove the and you need to repeat this step you go to filter. You don't need to go to blur this time because you can use the last filter or even quicker . You can assign a keyboard shortcut for this action. So in my case, I use control. Q. Okay, Either way, just click on it down. So now what you need to do is you need to work through all her face. Just select the area, which requires some smoothing press total Q. And it's done, and then just go around the whole face so you don't need to do it everywhere. Just search the areas where you see some blood itchiness in the skin and applying the effect this area a little bit on her chin. Don't do too much because you want your portrait Still look quite natural. Only work on the areas as some lunches, and it not only works for the face, he can also do it on your arms and legs. Just go all over the place. Also the clothes. Okay, I think with them. So what we can also do with frequency separation is we can improve this area under her eyes . So for that I need another tool. I come back to using the patch to, and then I just select this area and just ragged. Select and drag it at this stage. What you need to do is you need to check your before and after and remember. Always check before and after, because it's very easy to overdo this technique. So check before and after here. I think we're on the right way. It's just zoom in a little bit and before enough there. It's a good sign if you don't see the effect too much because we want very natural look import rates again. Let's Serie a little bit. Okay. So when you think you've done, you go back to less so on you can just apply some additional blur. I can't. Yeah, I know this area. Okay? I think so. We don't with the frequency separation. Make sure that you don't leave any area selected because the other layers will don't work. Press control D or Ah, layer select. So I select D select. Okay, so? So after you don't with frequency separation and you check your before and after. If you think that you did too much and the face started to look more like a face of a doll , you might want to decrease the opacity. Maybe two, 80%. So you will bring back the problems, but at the same time, the face will look more natural. Okay, I think we did a pretty good job and let's leave it at a 79%. So now we're ready to go to Dejan Burn 6. Dodge and Burn: Okay, so now let's work on the Dodge and burn layer, so select the layer for this exercise. We need a brush. When you click on B or select the brush, you will see brush presets. And now let's have a look here. So for every layer, we have a dedicated brush. So for Dajun burn, we have a brush with 5% capacity. And this has done so because every layer assumes a certain level off in density and in order to save some time again, this is about being efficient so that you don't need to go toe two presets, toe brush presets all the times and change the opacity manually. Every time you jump between the layers, it's much quicker. You choose the layer and you chose the correct brush. So for this case, we're working with dajun burglar. Choose dajun burn brush. The next thing you need to set up the colors. So this dodging and burning technique assumes that you're using white brush for dodging and black brush for burning and now you can start. But you may wonder which areas off the face to dodge and which areas off the face to burn and here they make up tutorial will actually help us a lot. So I have the skin. I have the skin. So this is the makeup guide. So it's not for photography. Guys, this is really for the makeup artist. So it shows which areas need some dodging and which areas, records and burning. And after some practice, you will remember it. And you don't need to come back to this picture. But this is a good starting point. OK, so let's try to do the same photograph. Okay, so we have chosen the brush. Let's make it a little larger on Let's start from her full forehead. Have some problem with my foot. A show. Sorry for that Galas work on him knows this area under eyes, the chin, the lips You might want to apply some dungeon. So this highlights also this areas. This highlights in your eyes make it a little bit more noticeable. Okay? No, they're earning. So with dodging and burning, you really can create some volume. But it's also very easy to overdo it and create something that doesn't look right. So always check your progress. Always check your before and after, and if you think that you're over doing it. Decrease the opacity. It's true to make her low. Let's try to make her nose look a little scarier. It will come with breakfast, guys. Maybe that's a bit too much. Also, don't forget about the rest of the body. You can work over her arms. This. Okay, let's check the before and after. Yeah, I think we are on the good way and maybe just decrease the past a little bit just to make it more natural. I've supported this. It's little, but maybe we can Yeah, just take a time. He can be quite difficult to practice, but it will be all right with some practice. Okay. Perfect. So we don't with dodging and burning, and then we know we can move to the next step. Working with the eyes 7. Eyes and Teeth: Okay, now it's done. Toe work with the ice. Okay, So that zoom. So what we can do with the eyes his first week in May increase the sharpness. So this adjustment layer has to likens the one is for the effect, and the one is for the mask. So we would like to apply the effect on Lee on the areas off her eyes. So for this one, we need to choose brush by sharpness. Make sure that the white color is selected. Decrease the brush, size and paint over there. I licious like this. Maybe eyebrows too. Okay, that's it. So let's now increase brightness off your eyes again. Choose the mask, choose the correct brush Zuman, and just decides Plant here being here. And there isn't why. The effect is not really visible is because this care of is maybe not defects. So let's change it a little bit to increase the brightness. Let's movement right here. Okay. So this chick, then before and after here, we had it. Some writers don't do too much because we want a portrait to look natural. Okay. Put for. Okay, So that's it with the ice. Um, the next thing to do would be toe to make the teeth whiter. She's not smiling, so there's nothing to do in this portrait. But I still would like to show you how this effect works. So let's load another file open. That's he is this image. Just open it. That's quickly wrong. The action. Click OK, and wait until the action completes. Okay, Perfect. So for this image, let's only work on her teeth. Let slip that Zuman. Let's make it center so that you can see better. Okay, so click on the teeth whitening mosque. Choose the brush just the size and just trained. Poor Hurtis. And you see this white color, it appears in the yellow color disappears. That's it. So simple. Okay, let's close it and let's go back to our image. 8. Volume: Okay, so now let's carry on working with the image. And now let's work on the volume. So there are a number off layers that you can use to increase the volume. So first, let's just enable this one. And this is a simple S curve, and you can edit it to your taste, just increasing the contrast where you want it. And, um, let's make it a little bit weather. Typically, I increased the country's just a little bit. And my favorite adjustment layer is this one volume, with curves blending so it consists off. Three. I think so. Fisting is the precept itself so and this is just a normal curve. Um, then it's the mask, and this one is the so that's enable this layer it Zoom out a little bit, okay? And you see that effect has already applied. But what we can do is we can configure it. So click on this toe boxes right here, double click on it, and you will have this dial up. There's lots of things, but we only use this one the underlying layer. So there's a slider, and if you slide it to the left and to the right, and you will see that effect is blending into her. What we need to do is we need to slide it until we start to like it, and then you need to hold out and click on the 1/2 of this leather and separated, and this is how you make it smooth. So this is how you make the transition between the dark and the bride really smooth. So just play around. Just go left and right until you like it and click OK, check the before and after you see there's some improvement in your face, but the cool thing you can do is you can reply this effect to different parts of your body . So what you need to do is first class. Rename this player his face. Let's create a copy, simply drag and a new layer. You could be created and call it body for you know what? Let's call it left arm. Just hide this for now, collectible click on the cycm and now let's that supply this effect to her left click on hold. Let's make the transition smoother. You see how the bright areas are becoming brighter. This is what we want. Okay, I like it. Click. Ok, look. And this is what Damascus for. So click or press control I to invert the mask, choose the brush and you will need standard brush for that. And just just pained. Sorry. Just paint over her arm to apply the effect right here. Okay, so now we have a separate effect for her arm. Let's do the same for the face. Invert the mask, make effect visible. And now just the brush and just paint over her face. Yeah, like this. Great. So what you may want to do is you want to select both layers and click. I'm group and name it for you. So now you can see the before and after for both of them. And you can also choose the passage if you think that you did too much. You okay? I think this is quick 9. Color corrention: Okay, so now we need to work on the color correction. So the first thing you wouldn't like to do when your color correction is actually removed the wrong colors. It's very typical that you will see some red or even some while it in her skin tones. So let's do something with that. So if you see this part off, your face is a little bit to read, and we can remove it. So in order to do it, you use this readiness removal there, so feels that you do. You click on the properties. You make this a little bit wider, will be more easier to work with. It's a little wetter, So first you click on this finger button and then you sample from the area, which is, which is red. Just click right here and then for the shop selects the range off colors, which is to white. So first, what you need to do is you need to just this automated range, so you need to know which area. Which colors are you picking up? Nothing is happening. Why? It's because the layer is hidden. Okay, so now we see what colors are being affected and obviously now with this range were affecting all the colors. So first, what we need to do is we need to select all of the colors that we would like to change. So we remember that the problem area was here. So let's zoom in a little bit on. That is too much. Let's bring it back. So stop only when the problem area is selected and when it is selected. Make sure you separate these two sliders just to move the transition in colors smooth. Okay, let's bring this one to the right. So as you see now, the lips are selected and we don't want to change colors off the lips. Bring it back. Not too much. Okay, it's impossible. Toe. Remove the lips completely. But don't worry too much about it, because we will be using the mask. Okay, so I always bring back this values to normal. And now what we need to do is we need to increase the hue. Don't do too much. 456 is typically enough on If you click before and after that, you see that we already removed a lot off this annoying redness. You can also play with the situation, and you can play with brightness with lightness a little bit. But I think even with default well is it should be quite all right. Look at physics. So zoom out. Unless Jake the before and after. Yeah, you see, there's a huge change, but you see that the lips are affected, so let's fix that. So what you need to do is you to click on the mask, you choose the brush. You will need standard brush. For that, make sure that the color is black and I click on de toe, set the default colors and press on X to toggle between black and white. And now let's paint over her lips. Okay, so now the lips and unaffected and we only removing the redness off this side of your face . Let's check the before and after. Yeah, you see this big change? Okay, so now we fixed your skin tone. What if we would like to change it a little bit just to do some color correction? There are two ways called to do it. The first way will be to play with the color balance. On another way will be to play with the skin tone bled, So I will show you, boss. So let's first do the color balance one. So click on the effect and you have this properties. So what it religious is it is mixing these colors in tow, shadows, metals and highlights. And there are no rules. Gaze. So you can just the sliders just important to your own taste. And I always the differently gist based on the mood. Or maybe the mood of the photograph. I never touch magenta and green because they just creates a natural results. But san and yellow, that's where I play with and what it typically do is I play with contrasts, so even shadows I posts, am and blue. Then in highlights, I would put a little bit of red end up with a little bit of yellow, so that creates a nice contrast in the mid tones. I just see what works for me for each photograph. I do different things. Okay, so now click on before and after, So that's a minor change, but I think it's a good change. Okay, so this is one way I took a look. Rick, the whole image again. If you want to apply this effect on into her skin. He can use the mask to do so, but I will show you another way. So let's fight this one and let's on hide the skin tone palette. So when you click on on height, he will see this palette to appear. And here is what we need to do with it. So choose the skin tone correction. There the book click. Click on the effect Double click on it. You will have the curve, and I need to choose the middle color picker. Double click on it. And this is very important that your effect is selected, not the mask, So make sure that effect is selected. Okay, so now we need to click on the skin tone which you think will match her skin. So I think this one Well, the other right. Okay, so this color select click OK, default. No, we don't want it to be default. And now with this middle color picker selected, just click on the area off your face, which is not too bright, not too dark. And you see that the colors will start changing, so just click around until you find the color that matches your taste or much is for taste . So I'd say I would say, maybe this one is all right If you think that is to saturate it, what you can do is you double click here and you choose situation. And he decreed the situation a little bit. Click. OK, No. And start from the beginning. Actually, I quite like this skin song, remember? Remember, there is nothing like a perfect skin tone, and this is only a starting point, and what you can do is you can actually customize it even further. So now we're playing with RGB curve, and you can change the brightness. Maybe you would like to decrease the brightness a little bit, but what he could do also, you can go to red, green and blue curve, and you can hear there just her skin tone practice, and you will understand how much each color changes this skin tone. I would say it's all driven by the intuition. There are no rules. You just follow your intuition. Okay, that's it. So now you can see which, uh, which layer did better job for you just hide skin tone, or you can completely remove it. If you don't plan to return it, return to it and then just see which one is better. Okay, lets say Well, like this one. Defict. So this is breathing much It The only thing that I would like to show you is how to do the camera raw filter. 10. Final touch and Export: Okay, so now we have our photograph nearly ready. So now if you click on the correction folder and you see the before and after and you see the changes that we've done and if you think that we did too much, you can again decrease the opacity. And it's also a good rule. When you finish retouching, you just give yourself a little rest. Give you are is a little rusty called drinkable water. And then you come back and typically you will notice some problems. And maybe you overdid over aged your photograph or didn't notice some problem. And then with the fresh, you will pick it up. So always rest before you expert the final image. Maybe you might want to play with the capacity. Okay, so now we like photograph and we are ready to expert. And to do it, just go file expert, expert s and choose. She's J pack. Keep the maximum image size and the scale in the quality, and just click export all when you are done. But before we go and expert it, I would like you to show one additional thing that you condone. Select this top layer and then press on the windows press shift control. All eat, and it will create your Mueller, which is the combination off all there's underneath. First thing you need to convert it to a smart object so that you can apply a filter and then be able to change the filter. So just wait until tell that for the shop is done yet. So when it's done, you go to filter any choose camera raw filter, and it will open the game, Aurore and you can start playing with the sittings again. And remember when we were only importing the picture, we actually skipped the majority of them. And that was for the reason, because the image wasn't clean, There were blemishes, there were problems. And now, with all them being fixed, we can actually play with this sliders again. It will create a very different results. So what do we typically do is if exposure and Contras requires some attention, I will fix it. But I don't think we need to touch it for this photograph. Maybe it will increase the shadows a little bit just to bring more texture into hill hair highlights. Moral is good. The texture. Four for my hell portrait's. I increased the texture a little bit for female apartments. Decreased texture, a little bit clarity. Let's leave it where it is. Okay, But I typically do is I play with the tone curve. Click right here just to fix it where it is not to affect the image too much and just slight. This one upside will crash the blacks a little bit. Then I like to sharpen the image even further. Just increase the sharper's. But I don't want sharpness to be applied for the whole photograph. I don't want to sharpen here a skin texture. So what I do is a press out and I slide this masking slider away to the right and the black areas is where sharpens is not applied in the white areas where the sharpness was applied. So it is only sharpening her eyes even further. Okay, this one age of cell I don't really do anything here. So they're split Thorning. You can be creative and you can, uh, play around with it. So what you do is first you increase the situation slider just to see which color you're blaming with just just the color, then decrease the situation to the shadow. Just different color. Maybe used the contrast color again. Great. The situation just to see which color you using? Maybe this one, just to grease it and use letter B the struggle between the before and after. I think that's maybe too much. Okay, Yeah. Lens correction. There's nothing to do on this step effects. Yeah, this one school so you can have grain. You need toe switch toe 100% and rather to see how much grain you're hedging and just be creative. Um, maybe don't do too much because it will be noticeable. But just do it according to your liking. I think it's all right now. Click. OK. Perfect. And as always, you can apply different capacity. And if you drop it under correction folder, you can toggle between before and after. Okay, That's it, guys. So I showed you all the steps, and you can now apply it to your own images and get your own results. So I encourage you to do the project in this class and which this video again, and follow it as you go. Yeah. Good luck. Well, without talking without giving so much details It will really take you, like, 10 15 minutes to do one portrayed. And you can copy most of this adjustment layers to another picture, for example, everything which is above volume and contrast. You can select and you can drag and drop toe another photograph. So this is call you again. Spit up your work. Great. So you've learned the world flow. You have everything that you need to get started. Good luck. 11. [Bonus] Extra Volume: Okay, guys, I want to show you another way how to play with volume on your port rates. And this is the one thing is the one adjustment layer all ingredients. And I skipped it in the main class on purpose because it's probably a little bit too advanced into long when you only starting retouching Portrait's. But if you would like to see how it works, let me show you how. So you click here. You'll see this radiant in the book, Click on the radiant, and now you can play with this slanders and you see the effect. So you will need to spend some time on it to bring the image toe the way, how you like it. But it can create also some interesting results. It will take much more time to practice. I can be critical for for certain circumstances away if you just want to make things slightly differently. Okay, that's it. So the before, after small improvement, but just a nice way to do it 12. Project Assigment: Okay, So this is the project of this class, and I would see a term to practice. And remember, one simple truth you will not develop was a photographer by learning. He only grow when you practice. So whatever like you to do is to take a portrayed. And is it according to the workflow you just learned? So what's the class again? And follow steps one by one. And show me what he could download all the supporting files. He can get the actions you can get the two presets from the download section. And also, if you're not able to take the portrait yourself, you can download the sample image for you to practice.
