1. Welcome to this Class: Hi there. It's Thomas George. And welcome to this last all about the Apple Loops library in logic Pro TEM. So if you're a logic, pro 10 user and you want to know how to quickly use thes apple loops and make sure you check out this class So in this class I'm going to quickly show you how to use the absolute library and then going to show you how to navigate yourself around the Apple Loops library so you can select the exact loops you wish for making music and then going to show you how to import these apple loops into your project. On after this, I'm going to show you how you can quickly create a groove just with apple loops. So if you're logic, pro 10 user and you want to know how to quickly use apple loops and join me in this class 2. Apple Loops - Part 1: Hello and welcome to this lecture all about the Apple Loops. Apple loops are role to free or do clips or mid eclipse that you can use in any way, shape or form in your music. There could be great for building blocks for a song or even if you need a certain part, like a vocal or, say an unusual drum sound, which you don't want to perform yourself. You can often find this in the apple loops. Apple loops can be a lot easier and quicker than, say, setting up a microphone or performing or writing a certain instrument parts that you may not be too comfortable with. I often use sound effects, loops and also percussion leaps in my songs. For example, for me to record an Indian tabla drum at first have to go and find a tabler, learn how to play its on. Then, after that mike up this drum on, this would probably take a fair amount of time compared to just using the apple loop. Apple Loops can be a great time saver and allows you to put certain sounds and textures into your music that you might not be able to think of or do without, Apple loops. So let's open up Apple loops. We can do this a few different ways. We can go over to the Apple Loops icon on the right, and if you don't have this icon here, you can add it to your toolbar. To do this, just hit control on. Click on the empty space here and then hit customized control bar on display and then make sure in the Views column, Apple Loops is checked. We can also go up to view on, then go down to show Luke browser, and this will bring up the Apple Loops library as well. Or, alternatively, we could use the key command. Okay, we can scroll through and have a look at all of these different apple loops. You'll notice. Down here we have the number of apple. Oops, I currently have over 24,000 Apple loops. If you don't have as many loops is this you can always download more to do this, go to a logic pro temp in the top left on, then go to sound library and then goto open sound Library manager. You can scroll down to where it says apple loops and check this on. This will take up 16 gigabytes of space. If you don't want to download that money Apple Loops, you can hit this arrow here on just select by genre. For example, if I just want electro house tech house deep house on chill wave so I'm going to do select all these other ones here. This will just take up 442 megabytes. I currently have all of them installed, though, which is why I have so many items. I do also recommend going over to logic Pro 10 in the top left, go to Sound library and also download essential sounds and also download all available sounds. If you have enough space on your Mac hard drive. Okay, let's have a look at some of these loops. We simply just click them to play the loop and click again to pause. Um, there's also this speaker icon in the bottom left of the Loop Library on. This will play on pause loops as well. We have so many different loops on in the next few lectures. I'm going to show you exactly how to use this Apple Loop library. First of all, it says the name off the loop. So if you have a look at this one here, it says 12 8 Acoustic strum one. This is called 12 Eights because it's in the time Signature off 12 8 So it plays 12 8th notes in the bar, so you can count this if you want. 123456789 10 11 12 That's 12. If you scroll down, we have a few of ones as well. Most of them will be in 44 but there can be some or unusual ones from sound effects. And this one here, which is six. A acoustic strum, which is 6/8 notes in a bar. So 123456123456 These are called loops because they will just continually loop round and round of all being designed so you can just play this constantly, and it was sound absolutely fine, just looping around around. So let's just play this one, for example, and it will live around them around next to this. You have the beats, so this is actually the length off the loop. So if we're working in four. For if it says four beats, this means is one bar it beats. This means is to bar 12 beats. It means it's free. Bar on 16 beats means it's four bars. We will also have some samples that will say a time amount rather than beat. For example, this one here, which is more of a miniature song. We don't have to use all of the loot. We can cut up, move around and just use certain sections on these loops are all role to free, which is absolutely amazing that we have this many loops at our disposal. Okay, then we have this little heart icon. This allows you to actually select your favorite loops. So for example, this one here 68 acoustic strum one I have this one checked and also have the one below Acoustic strum five checked and then if I go up to this heart icon in the top right off a pollutes library, it will just show me my favorite leap. So this is really useful. If you have any loops that you use often you just want to quickly find your favorite loot. You can do this with this heart box. Okay, going along. We have tempo. So this is the original tempo off the loop. Logic Pro is telling us here it's sounds most natural at this tempo. However, Logic Pro will actually adapt these loops to the tempo off your project without changing the pitch. So when we click on the loop, it will play the loop at our project tempo, not at the original tempo. So right now our project tempo is on 120 beats per minute. So if I play this back now, it will play back at its original tempo because this is the same project template. However, if I increase this tempo to say 170 beats per minutes is gonna play back a lot faster, let's just but this back down to 120. So if you want to hear the loop in its original tempo, you can just type in the tempo in your LCD screen here on match it with the original tempo off the loop. Okay, going along. We have key. So this is the original key that the loop was intended for. So by default, this will actually adapt to the key of our project. So right now this is on C sharp major. So if we change this to say, see major on, let's play this loop back. And now that's click on the LCD screen and shoes d major. So this is the key that it was intended for. However, Like I said, it will adapt to our Project key just for this example. Let's go on D flat Major, you can hear is change key. We also have this cock down here. If we select this gives us a few more options by default, it will play in song key, But you can also play in the original key if you want to hear what the loop sounds like in the key it was intended for. So if I click on this one here 68 acoustic strum four. It will play in E on the one above. And now a. But if we change this back to song key, there will play in the same key, which is currently D flat Major. We can also go through on manually select hockey, but by default, this will play in the song key. Okay, then we also have this gain slider if we want to increase or decrease the game off the loop when we play the loops back in the loop library. Okay, so that's the end of this part. Long lecture. In the next lecture, we're going to continue looking at the Apple Loops on. We're going to look at narrowing down our search to find the exact type of loops that we want to use. So thank you for watching, and I'll see you in the next lecture. 3. Apple Loops - Part 2: Navigation: welcome back. And let's continue looking at the Apple Loops, so you'll notice up here that we have free different tabs. We have inch mint genre on descriptors, so the instrument will have a selection of instruments we can choose, which also includes sound effects on jingles. Genres will have the musical genre, and the Scriptures will have descriptions such as grooving, melodic or distorted. Okay, so let's narrow these loops down because currently we have over 24,000 loops on. That's a lot of loops to go through. Sometimes you might just want a specific type of sound or specific loop. So let's narrow this down. So let's go on instruments on. I'm going to choose base on. Let's also choose Simp Face, and now it's only going to show since basis. And here we have 1304 lips. That's still a lot of loops, so let's actually narrow this down even more. Let's go to genre and going to choose house, and now I'm going to choose Deep House. Let's go to descriptors on going to choose relaxed, and now we only have 29 items on if we click on some of these loops, these will be relaxed, deep house synth basis. So let's have a listen to a few of these. Okay, so we completely narrow down. There's 24,000 loops to just 29 because if you want a specific type of loop, you really don't want to be searching through all of those thousands of different groups. Okay, if we hit the X button up here in the top left orange X button, this will reset the search. Also up here we have a loop packs, so this allows us to search our loop of either different loot packs that we have. So we have stuff like hip hop, deep house, symphony orchestra and also sound effects. Let's just have a look at the sound effects. Okay, now we currently have 418 items. Let's narrow this down even more. Let's go on to distorted on genre. Let's choose Elektronik, and now we only have 14 items. Let's just have a listen to a few of these, so these are actually recordings rather than loops. However, these are all roles he free. We can chop them up and just use parts of this in our songs if we want. Okay, let's go to Lou Packs on Guilt to the top and go on to all genres. You'll notice we have these two different boxes. Here we have one were free squares on one were free rectangles. So the one the free squares the default one is the search were looking at before where we select the different boxes to help us narrow down. Our search on the rectangle gives us a list style searching method to narrow down our loops . So let's click on instruments, and we can actually drag the loops down to create some more space. And now let's click on Doldrums. And if we click on Bell, he'll notice that only free loops. However, if we scroll down and see clean, there's still 2176 loops, which we can't actually narrow down anymore. So sometimes this can be useful if there are just a few leaps. But when there's a lot of loops like this, I do actually prefer using the other search method because you can narrow Daniel search even more so if you go on instruments and click on doldrums and now we go to descriptors conflict unclean. We can actually narrow this down even more and go on country. For example, you could also go into scriptures again and choose grooving, also relaxed. And now you'll notice there's just 34 items that's clean grooving relaxed country drums. Let's just reset this search now with the Orange Cross on. Just below this, you'll notice we have scale and signature, so at the moment it's on any. But we can change this to minor major knee evil or both. Let's have a look at minor, so if you select this, you'll notice there are a lot less loops. And if we click on this, they should be minor loops. Let's change this to Major, and if you click on this, these should be major loops and you notice here there's 4000 major loops. Okay, going down. We have Niva here. There are a lot less loops, just 605. So who have abstract sounds? We also have world music loops that don't follow Western styles off major or minor music going back to the drop down box. We also have both, so here we have 1398 leaps on these loops. Conf it in both major and minor music. Uh huh. Okay, let's put scale back to any and going along. We have signature. So this will display the loops that are in the time signature that we choose right now is on any but free select four for notice. We have a few less loops, but still a lot of different loops, as most of these will be. And 44 we changes to 54 which means five crutches or 5/4 notes and the beats you noticed there are even less loops. 2000 156. Let's actually go through and narrow this down even more so let's go on to instruments on Doldrums and let's go over to descriptors and choose grieving. Now we just have 21 items, so these loops will be in the time Signature off 54 Okay, so that's how you can navigate yourself around the Apple Loop library. And that's how you can also narrow down your search so you can find the exact type of loops that you want. So thank you for watching this lecture in the next lecture. We're going to look at importing apple loops into our project 4. Apple Loops - Part 3: Importing: the next powers is constipated. Pose so cost powers Easy yin version. I should want to NASA which is sitting So we need That's right. Where legs stretched knees together and, uh in young You go boy. Iss kept. But I mean you got is to relax into wine before you go. We are going Teoh knees to chest. I think this position active version just you can just Yeah, that is an incident. Thanks. Forward. This is a country goes to do that. I need to bring four hands to lift our head and keep it as close to your knees as you can. You can bring it to you needs that you don't have to thing. Is that easy but more stretched. You're wrong. So once on the yes house to tired muscles helps you mind, you know, So that's a perfect exercise in between happy baby and reclining. Twist in laying that we're going to do now like you bring on slide way, way right away. Big T that's OK. And keeping you need rape way rights. Yeah, thistles Too much. This is too difficult. And once you get a night thanks to that side hand, it means that it's too much legs. Walk it, okay? And you, But you sent one me and again small circles. And last today, many say it's the most important pose. It's final station. Radio fee is like this to school and relax. They chests shoulder like scary slightly hands. Palms facing your bones. They say for two by the grease away from your body. I'm saying this feels you today. You've got a nice space. Teoh, take the rents in. Okay, Um right now, close your eyes and concentrate on breathing. Every exhale the touch matting down rocks muscles between your diapers. Relax. Stay out your tongue. Worst. And you can stay here as long ones. Get out of the house. Bring your arms. And what behind you hit and stretch you can stretch is if he can. You get Roy yourself to the slide support you Teoh sitting position. Cross your legs. Careful they like me. So that's 1/2 oldest pose. And once again, you just on you data, do what you want todo after your relaxation after my so feed 10 years, some of some extra appropriations to choose from you on the next video is about how to organize these poses into successful. So the most official union sequence I see in the next year 5. Apple Loops - Part 4: Create a Groove: Hello. Welcome back in this lecture. We're going to look at creating a group of Apple loops, and we're also going to look at, like, families and arrangement. So let's actually create a different style of music just for this example. So I'm just going to delete these tracks here on Delete the MIDI information for this classic electric piano. So let's go on to Instruments on Let's Choose Doldrums and then go over to genre and let's choose Elektronik and let's have a listen to a couple of these drums on. We're just going to quickly make a grieve. Obviously, at home, you may want to spend more time at selecting your loops and arranging, but just for this example, let's just scroll through a few of them. Let's use this one to step balancing beat two on drag this below the classic electric piano , and here we have the drum machine and let's just turn on the cycle area by clicking the gray bar here or using the key command see, so actually, just want to use bar to to free. So I'm going to go over to the recital, which is the bottom sides off the slope track this to bar to and then drag the ends to bar free and then dragged this over and then go over to the loop. It'll and then dragged this over. So it's four bars long. Let's have a listen to this loop. Now. I'm actually going to open up the media information by clicking on this. I just want to add in a kick at the start, make sure the right click tall is a pencil tool, and then just right click on. Now I've added in a kick. Okay, great. So just quickly gone in and adapted this loop. So let's now find a baseball. So I just reset this loop search. Let's go on instruments that's choose base and now synth bass on Let's go on to genre. Let's choose Elektronik on descriptors. I'm going to choose dark. Okay, so let's play the loop in our project and go through a few of these now. Sometimes it can be easier using MIDI loops rather than audio loops, because sometimes it can be easier to edit the MIDI information rather than the audio. Okay, let's just drive this one over and here we can see it's literally just playing this one note, which is a D flat. I'm also going to change the key to see Major just to make it a little easier to work with . And if we drag in the loop again now the notice is changed to see Major, you can always open up the piano roll editor by his in. This is a button here and edit some of this midi information, so I'm going to delete the 1st 1 on then just use this loop here, which is only playing the note of C. And I'm going to hold down the up button drug over the slope here and now I'm going to change this to another notes. Let's try a G on. Let's go back to the 1st 1 C Hold down bolts to drag it over. Okay, I'm also going to leap the federal so the third and four for the same So the 1st 1 is playing a seat. The 2nd 1 is playing a G on the third and fourth are also playing the sea. If we hear Alton see, it allows us to actually choose a different color. Sometimes it can be useful to change the colors so we know instantly that something different. Now let's have a listen to this back. Okay, great. Let's now add a simple but so let's reset this search. Go to instruments on Let's go to Simpson genre. Let's choose Elektronik again on descriptors. That's choose. Distort it on. Now let's play the loop in our project and play through a few of these loops. Let's try this one Techno in a simp six on drug this below, and I'm going to look this now with a little so just hover over the MIDI information in the top, right and then just drag it over. It's going to change some of the levels here, just going to make this simple bit quite a okay. Let's now add a vocal part that's reset the search again. Go to instruments. Let's choose vocals on genre. Let's choose Elektronik, and here we only have 16 items. So let's have a listen to some of these moment to moment. Let's try this 1st 1 on drug it below. Let's duplicate this by holding down ult and dragging over. We also have the arrow button on this loop that allows us to choose another loop from the loop family. So these vocals from the same family sometimes they will be the same singer or will be in the same style. Okay, now we've got some loops toe work with weaken. Just quickly arrange this. So let's actually bring the drums in a bit later on and just start without the drums on. Then when the drums enter, we won't have any vocals, and we bring the vocals in later on. Then we bring in the Simpson. So I'm just holding down all to copy this information over and then we just finish with some Simpson. Okay, let's have a quick listen to this arrangement, which is all made of Apple Loops. I have adapted some of these loops slightly. That's really fast. Way to start making music. Maybe. Let me thank you. I think it is a place to be back in a moment. Okay, so while that was playing, I was just dragging over some more leaps. Just making a quick arrangement. And that's how it can quickly make a song just with a pollutes and logic pro TEM. There's all royalty free loops so you can adapt them. You can move them. You can change them around or you can use them exactly how they are. So this song was made really fast. Just with apple loops. I'd have given you some ideas and inspiration for adding apple loops into your own music that all royalty free so you can adapt them. You can change them. We can use them exactly as they are. 6. Thanks for Watching and Class Project: Okay, Well, at the end of this class, thank you for making get all the way to the end. And I hope you found it useful. So your class project is to create your own groove with the apple Loops. I then want you to arrange the group and make kind of a mini song and then post a screenshot off your logic pro arrangement on right to sentence so I can see exactly what you did. So thank you again for watching this class, and I hopefully talk to you soon.
