About This Class

On this class you will learn to Design 3 Freestyle Abstract Posters using Photoshop and Cinema4D.

We will start by creating a simple gradient on Photoshop and then move to Cinema4D.

On cinema4D we will create geometric 3D objects ( black&white and colorful ones )

Then we will come back on photoshop and create our first poster.

After that we will start doing a similar process, by going on cinema4d to create abstract geometric 3D shapes and come back on photoshop to do the composition and color adjusements.

This way we will create 3 experimental posters.

1. Intro: I everyone? My name is clients on this class. You will learn how to create this exact three posters. I call these freestyle posters because you will be able to experiment during the whole process and come up with something unique. With the techniques you will learn, you will be able to create similar posters like these. We will start by creating some simple three D objects on cinema four D and then go on for the shop to work with a composition, color adjustments and other tools that can improve your workflow. This class will help you to develop your style in graphic design by experimenting with three D elements you will need only for the shop and cinema for these, so make sure to enroll and see the whole class. 2. 3D Objects: Hey, guys, Welcome back. So I created this artwork previously so I can have it as a reference while I, uh, explain how we can Great. Ah, this exact poster. First, we are going to start to on cinema four D Too great. These three D objects and then come on, Father, shop toe at this Ah, picture and do some color adjustments and work with the composition. Then we will do also these kind of posters on this one. But ah, before we go on cinema four d, let's first create a Grady int so we can apply it on the three d object like you can see on this example. So let's open father shop. Let's create a new document that's greater square image like, Ah, one thousands and one thousands The size Resolution seven to do color mode. Dodgy beak we create. Let's create a new layer. So we're just going to create like, a texture. I will goto this Ah, Grady and tool right here. And ah, I have ah, I have all these great things that I have saved that I used to create my posters. I'm going to use this one, so I'm clicking okay. And I will just apply this greedy int You can hold shift. Ah, to keep a straight line. So how you can create this? Ah, great dentists. You go on this option right here and you have this default ingredient. You click on it and you change the color step by step. So quick on red, call the red and Ah, big this color, for example. Then go on the next caller and picked this cholera at here. Onda, after they finish with all the colors to just create new and you will have it. Ah, saved right here. So if you want, you can just screen shot this and get the colors from it. Okay, so now we need to save this Ah image so we can use it on cinema. D So vile. Say this. Let's say this as a J Paige. Okay, let's remove all the shop for a second. Okay, so now we are on cinema four D and ah, basically, there are two ways to create. Ah, this kind off three d objects. I will show you both ways. So how you can do it is first goto this cube right here and you have these three D objects that you can great. Let's take this platonic, for example, and the easiest way together. The fact is, by changing the rather surrender settings. First, let's do our interview and to get that black and white Ah, look, we go to render settings on. We go to effect and go to sell Orender. And now you check this address color and on the edge color and background color. We're going toe switch sides. So let's make this white on the background Caller black on. Let's remove this. And if we render this as you can see ah, you get these effects are basically whatever object you create, it will appear in with these segments If we increase the segments for example, from 1 to 10. Andi, if we render this again, you can see that it is ah more detailed of the bad part off. This way to create this object is that ah, we can get this kind off object with with a Grady int, you can get it only with two solid colors. So let's uncheck this cellar cell Orender so you can use this only if you want to get black and white objects. Now I will show you the second way to create that. Ah, that effect. So basically, let's create a new material is double click on it and ah, let's uncheck the reflect INTs. I'm just keeping the color and making it black. Now, just Dragon, apply that material to the object on. Now we have ah black object, so you can see it right here. So now we need to add those white segments. So let's copy this. Ah, Object. Command, Control. Say command control be. And now we need toe. Apply this Hatem array. So you go right here. Hold. Three can click on Autumn Marie, and you get that effect. And ah, now you go on Autumn Mary, and you have the cylinder radius and sphere radius. Ah, which represents Ah, the radius off of these subjects. Right here. So sphere and the cylinder. Now we need to make that them the same radios. So, like, European five. Maybe also the sphere Radio courageous 0.5. That's for interview. Maybe we can make them like 0.2. Let's see how it looks. Yeah, I think it looks better, but now we need toe apply a material toe that so let's create on that second mature that is created when we copied the platonic object on Let's go toe the color so make sure only the color is checked and make that white. Or if you don't want to get this kind of shadows, we can check the color and ah goto luminous. So we get only the solid white color on Let's apply this on the bottom a rate on def. We render now we get the same effect as we did with the render setting that we did before. Okay, so I hope you got the idea of how this works. Now I will show you how you can Ah, at the radiant too. And, ah, render these with transparent that ground so we can work on ah for the shop them. So see in the next video 3. 3D Objects Gradient and Rendering: they welcome back. So before I change the render settings, I will create also the three d object with the ingredient texture that we created. So let's ah, copal these So click on the below layer. Hold chief, Click on the bottelier Command Control C Command control he on. Let's uncheck these below leaders first and now we can create a new material. Let's in check the reflectors Go on color on dawn texture We're going to load the image that we created so the radiant. So as you can see, we applaud that great and that we created. Now let's apply these to the platonic object lets her interview. And so we got this Ah, radiant effect that we wanted to create on the cycles from the edge. Ah, we can change the camera and gold. We can rotate, zoom in or zoom out or move laughter. All right. Ah, so we can get a position where we want toe render the image. Now let's go to render settings right here. Go on the output and let's set the size. Maybe we can make this for thousands square image. Ah, now go to save. Make sure the former it is Ah, PNG and also check the Alpha Channel. So we get a transparent background on Let's just start a folder where we can save these. Now let's click render and we're going to wait for these two figures so we can render also the other objects. Okay, now let's uncheck this object and let's check the below object and ah, let's get ah, good position of it. And before weekly grander, we can change the name of it so it doesn't replace the object that we just rendered. Now let's click Orender. And basically, if you want more like ah, objects or more a renders, you can render them in different positions. So you get some variations. But also I will do Orender of this subject from inside. So I'm just zooming in and, ah so I can use that as a background for the artwork or for the posters. So I'm just changing the name on dime rendering this and maybe I do some other enders of the objects from different angles 4. Poster one Composition: you guys welcome back. So the object that we exported, we're going to use them to create our poster first, let's get a photo reference. Ah, I got this picture from ah splash dot com eso go downstairs that come and I just type portrayed. And ah, you have all this option where you can get a picture from. Ah, I got this exact one from Renata Fraga. Ah, Anyway, you can use their own picture or whatever you like. So let's go on further shop on DA. I have the image right here. So now let's create a new document so we can start working on the posters. A file new. Let's set a size for it and click Create. Now let's go pay our image to our new document command and command Control V. Now let's ah reposition this. What we're going to do next is toe cut this picture. So usually I used Pento took out the picture. So let's zoom in. So I will start from a point and click on another point and hold to create curves. So this way I'm going to fall along the path off the escape so I can remove the background . Okay, so now we just need to close the past. So in this Ah, around change shape appears, you click on it and drought now. Ah, right. Click makes election like Okay, so it's elect the path that we created that zoom out now. Command control C Command control V. So we create a new layer with our image without background. And let's uncheck the below layer. Now let's reposition it a little bit. So command control T. Now let's import our objects so we can use them toe to create. Ah, our poster. First, let's get this one so we can use it for our background. That's copy this and goto our poster on Let's based it. Now let's position it below our image and we carry size this. I think I'm making this darker. So go to image adjustment to separation on decrease the lightness. Now, basically, the next step is to import our objects and try toe do a good composition. Ah, I will have that as ah, the reference where I can position the the object. So I'm speeding this up so I don't repeat myself all the time. Okay, So after I place these three d objects. Ah, in this poster, I think I will make them darker. So I just goto image adjustment to saturation and decrease the lightness like I did with the background. And now the next step is toe. Get the Grady on three D object and place them below the black and white object. So if you can see the order of the layers, there are three layers above the photo reference or 33 d object. This all right here, This one and this one. And there is one. Ah, below the photo reference, This one right here and basically nowhere. We place the great aunt object. Ah, below the black and white objects toe Get that kind of contrast. Like, ah, like in our example. Okay. So as you can see in the layer order, I made the color object with with the red colors so you can see how they are ordered. Basically, I've placed them below the black and white object, As you can see right here also, I plays three objects above the the black and white objects. And basically, this was the composition of the poster. And the next step is toe. Add some color adjustments to the to the photo reference and at some elements and some tax to it. So see you in the next video. 5. Color Adjusements: Hey, welcome back. So the next step is to add some color adjustment to the father reference. So let's go to that layer. It is now. You have all the adjustments on this icon right here, so click on it. And as you can see, there are brightness and contrast levels, curves and all these other options. So first, let's go toe brightness and contrast. Ah, I will increase. Ah, brightness and contrast to on. As you can see, it appears that it affects all all the the poster. I need the toe apply that affect only on the father reference. So you need to goto layer and create clipping mask so it affects only the layer below it which is Ah, the father reference. So now we can change the brightest and contrast. And now let's create the let's add another adjustments like curves and ah, we need to place that below. So it affects only the the father reference and on the curves Ah, adjustments. As you can see right here you have the sergeant be option red, green and blue on. Basically, how this works is Ah, you click on this line right here and ah adjusted so it affects the picture. Maybe we can at the country. Some contrast to it are about some colors from the red, green and blue option just to get some highlights of the picture. Because then we are going to apply the black and white affect the So there is like there's not like a fix that curve for RGB or for red. We just ah see how it applies on the picture and ah, see what looks go toe to you. Okay, So after I finished with the curves, as as I said, Ah, I wanted to create some color highlights from picture and this is exactly what I did. And now I'm going toe apply that black and white effect. How this works is basically you have all these colors Ah, red, yellow green that Ah, blue and purple on da There is this level of color and if you change that, it changes the the red color from from the picture and so on with the other color. So I will just see and play around with these until I find the kind of balance that I that I like So then I can apply some Grady int on the highlights of the picture. Yeah, OK, now let's create a new layer and we need to select the highlights of the picture. So we go toe select color range on DA. On this select option right here you have this sample color so you can, like, click on a part right here, and it ah selects similar colors to it or you have ah, this highlight option right here and you can play around with the fuzziness arrange. So it's elects. Ah, all the highlights of the picture. As you can see, it's electron. Also the other parts aside from the photo reference. But we are on this clipping mask options. So it applies only our on our photo reference. So let's go toe Grady in tool and choose our ingredient on Just supply this by holding shift so we can create. We can keep a straight line. Now let's de select And ah, maybe we can change the mode from normal to like, ah, overlay, See how it looks. I think it looks, ah better this way. Another thing we can do is that some color to the sunglasses. So let's create a new layer. Let's do this by using brush tool. I'm changing the size and the hardness on I would just paint over the the sunglasses. I'm not making this. Ah, super perfect. No, to apply ingredient on this. Ah, white ah, brush that we applied. We go on our ah, layer, Let's I'm calling this brush on Make sure to click commander control on Click on the layer so it selects And now let's apply the Grady in tool Let's ah the select And we can change the mold from normal to like difference on Get that cool effect. What we can do next with the father reference is Ah, let's go to this for the reference and the rightly goto blending option and check this bevel and members And what this ah effect does is ah, that's some highlights on the side of the picture. We can change the side the size. Also, we can change the angle of the light. Ah, you have the single right here. I'm Ah, I'm Ah, I'm repositioning at this point. So it looks better like this, I think. Ah, here you have the highlight mode, which I'm using. Land Leonard Dodge. Ah, the shadow mode and the capacity. And basically, this is ah being color because after jumping, color it here, you can Ah, they're under the A plus ity. Okay, so that was a small detail. I think now the next step is ah to add some text to it. Ah, as in the example I've created also had these Ah, small around random shapes. Ah, on do some color adjustment to the whole posture. 6. Finalize Poster One: Okay, so let's do the final adjustments with our poster. Let's create a new layer so we can add some text. Ah, I use that random word vision I'm using. Ah, foot tower. A font? No. You can do all the tax adjustments on this. Ah, I can write year. So click on it and you have Ah, the size right here. So I'm copping this and ah, facing below. Now we can sell like this and change the space between ah arose from this Ah, part right here. So just increased this. Maybe we can make the text smaller. We can place them just to have a better composition. I think I'm a hold old key and drag this up to copy are making this text smaller and I will decrease the the space beating between rows. Let's position it somewhere right here. Maybe decrease the A positive Onda also. Let's ah, copy this one more time so we can place it on this space right here, which looks really empty. I think so. Hold all key and drag these below the photo reference. Come on, control T toe. Reposition it. Okay, So after we finish with the text Ah, now we can add those random Ah, small shapes. I will do them very men. Really? I think so. I will make some random, small shapes on this part right here. And I will copy them as a group in the whole space of the poster. So just using laser tool and then go to Grady int, you can type G on the keyboard as a short cut and apply the greedy int. Okay, so now, after I created these small details, I'm coping this by holding gulke and dragging up. And I'm using command control. T toe reposition this on. Basically, I will feel the space with these small details. Okay, So before I do the color adjustments, I will apply some Ah, random black brush on the dark side of this Ah, of this poster. So I will create a new layer below this around shapes on go to brush tool and make sure the modus dissolve and ah, let's change the size. Choose the color black and just supplied on this. Ah, on some random parts on this. Ah, not on the colorful part of the posture. Now let's ah change the a positive e. Let's um, decrease it. So these are just small details that Ah, make the poster look. Look better, I think. Okay, so now there's do the final adjustments. Uh, you have the adjustments, right, dear? So, brightness and contrast. Let's increase the contrast. Let's go. Toe color balance. Okay, so that's it for this poster. The next to posters will take less time. Ah, that's Ah, that's the reason why I decided to make that first. So if you created your project, please Ah, uploaded. So? So I can see that. And I would appreciate a good review if you enjoyed this. This tutorial tear No, till now. OK, so now let's get started with the next postures. 7. 3D Objects Second Poster: Hey, guys, Welcome back. So the next poster that we're going to create is will be something. Ah, similar toe. This one. So the first step is to go on cinema four D and basically, we're doing the We are applying the same technique, but in a different object. So we will go to this cube right here and go on landscape on DA. Now we need to change this with segment from 100. Make it like 10. So it reduces the segments and the details on it. And well, now let's ah, make let's increase the height. You can do that. Ah, manually. Right here, for example, like 300. And now, after we created that object Ah, the steps are the same about creating materials like we did on the on the next subject. So first, let's ah, check the reflect intense Make the color black on the plight on the material. Now let's copy this object Common Control C Command control V. It copies the the material do so we'll make this white because we're going to apply that on the atom. Mary. So let's make this uncheck the reflect and then check the ruminants and check the color so the luminous is white. And now go to this. Ah, Tom, A rate on let's change the radios make this 0.5 and that supply the landscape to it. Also, the material should be applied to the primary Ondas you can see from the render view it created that. Ah, that effect. Now we need to change the camera position. Get it summer somewhere here and now. Let's Ah, go to render settings so we can change the width and the height. Let's make this like five thousands just in case we need a big image and the former PNG Check the Alfa General and let's say the folder where we can save this. Okay, now let's reposition the camera on Let's Orender this and then on Photoshopped we're going to add this kind off radiance and applies on different effects with 8. Finalize Second Poster: Okay, so now we're on Photoshopped to create the second poster. And ah, here is the three d object that we exported from cinema for D. Now, let's great. Ah, new documents. So file new. Let's ah, use the same size as we did on the first post. Directly create. And now let's go pee our three d object. Let's base it on our document. And let's resize this by using ah, command control T. So I'm placing it somewhere right here. Now we need to apply a Grady into the background. So let's create a new layer below our object and goto Grady in tool. I'll use another ingredient that I've created. I'm holding shift toe get ah, 45 degree line. Okay, so now we need to apply some Grady INTs on some parts off off this object and how this works is ah, basically select on this Ah, object on this layer on. Let's goto this, uh ah, Magic one tool and click on Ah, on a part of this, this object and ah, it's elects. Ah, this part inside the segments and the create multiple parts of the of the object you should hold shift. Onda click on another part and basically we will do the same with some Ah, get some kind off stripes elections. And now, after we did all this election, we need to create a new layer and ah Goto Grady in tool on. Let's apply this Ah is great into the selection that we made. Okay, Now we need to add some details to this. So let's create a new layer and then placing this below the ingredients and ah, I will darken this Ah part right here. So it creates a kind of separation. So I will. You spent toe toe to select the part that I will ah make darker. So I'm following the segments off this picture. Now that's right. Click makes election and click. OK, so basically, the is the same process as we did when we cut the picture on the first poster. And now let's apply a great black color. So go ingredient. Hopefully right click and go on paying bucket tool. Make sure the color is black and that supply these now Let's ah, let's de select and we can change the opacity Now Let's go pay our object from cinema four D. Let's hold the old key and drag this down. Onda Common Control T on. Let's reposition it. Ah, to add some more details to the to the artwork. We can invert the colors on this. So go to image adjustments and invert. I think it creates a good contrast. Let's go over this again so drag up by holding all key. And I'm inviting this because I want to make this darker. Let's place this. Ah, somewhere below you can use control command you as a shortcut for ah hue saturation so we can decrease the lightness. I think we can reposition this. Ah, little bit done. So select all these layers. Now is the final detail. We can add a round shape. So let's create a new layer and go to this elliptical market tool and hold shift to create ah, around, uh, on hold shift to create a regular circle. Okay, let's do just a few final adjustments like brought brightness and contrast and color adjustments before we move to the second post. Oh, the third Foster 9. 3D Objects Final Poster: Okay, so now it's time to work on the third poster. This is an example off what we're going to do. So first, let's go on cinema four D, and to create that kind off sphere, we first goto landscape like we did before on. We just need to check this very cold. And to make this more detailed, we just ah need toe to change the with Sigmund's segments toe to increase. It may be like 300 So as you can see, it is more detailed. And now the next step is ah, like we did with the other objects. But on this one, I will show you even how to create Ah, this kind off distortion between the segments and the colorful object, like on this part right here, as you can see. Okay, So first, let's dough the process like we did with the other objects. I'm speeding this up so I don't repeat myself. Okay, so if you want this like less detailed, you can just decrease the with segment like 200. Just make sure you decrease it the same Ah, on the Atom Mary landscape case. After we created this kind of objects Ah, Now I will show you how to create this. That kind of distortion between segments and the object. Basically, you need to change the seed on one of the landscapes. For example, if I change the the seed, tow this one, it's ah, it creates another random shapes that doesn't a line, let's say with ah, the above Ah, shape off the landscape. So this is how you create that kind of distortion between these two? Okay, now we just need toe render the and go on further shop to greater, simple composition for the final posture. 10. Finalizing: Okay, Now we're on photo shop, and I have opened the object that I exported from Cinema Purdy on Let's ah, create the final document for the final poster. And basically now will copy and paste Ah, these subjects on my poster toe great. A composition and scale and resize them. Okay, so after I did the arrangement off these three d objects Ah, I had in mind the toe kind of Combinator, the the black object with a colorful one. Also, I played around with a hue saturation of the colorful object and decrease the lightness off the black and white ones on DA. There wasn't much to explain, so basically, I just arranged them. Ah, to find a good balance between color and ah grayscale or the black object. Now we need to add the kind of chromatic shape. So now let's greater rectangular shape and we're going to apply a great into it. So go ingredient tool and let's apply ingredient. Now let's reposition it. And also we are going to make a copy of this first time position in this in the center. No, let's hold old key and drag this down so we can create the copy and now command control T Andi. I'm holding shift to keep the proportions and I will make this bigger. Actually, we don't have toe hold shift. We are just making this kind of big, bigger proportionally The below layer should be in a different ah ingredient color. So I will try to invert this so we can invert color. Yeah, it looks good. I think now we need to add this kind off adapts to it like you can see in this Ah example. So how you can do this is by ah right clicking and goto blending option And we will use this babble And Ambos so just this option As you can see, it creates some kind of depth toe the layer we can increase the size so it looks better. As you can see, it makes some changes on the above part. Maybe we can increase the capacity on this multiply part so it makes this below apart darker. Now click OK and ah, to make this Ah, this above lier. Like, more shiny. We can go on blending option again. Now goto color overly and check this and make sure the blend mode is color dodge the A positive around 50% And just Ah, picker pink color and this greatest kind off chromatic shiny effect. So let's click. OK? And let's ah, group these two layers click on the cycle right here to group it. And now I will just make some copy of it to create a few rolls off these of these shapes. Okay, now let's do some final adjustments. So brightness and contrast and those are the color color balance of it. Okay, so I think that's it for this poster. I tried to speed up on some parts. Ah, that I found ah necessary to explain because I was just repeating some stuff. So if there is something I missed to explain, please just send me a message or ah, leave a comment so I can explain what you didn't understand. If there isn't any part of this and I would appreciate if you share your project so I can give ah review and share them on my instagram page two, I would appreciate a good review and also please, if you want more tutorials just for me on instagram and, uh, tell me what tutorials you would like next. Ah, because I'm trying to do more, So yeah, I hope you found this helpful and see on the next tutorials by
